We currently have an
exciting opportunity for a Field Programme Coordinator, South East Asia to join
our team; current project activities in this region include a focus on
Indonesian songbirds and collaboration with the IUCN SSC Asian Wild Cattle
Specialist Group.
The Role:
• Development
and co-ordination of various project activities (in the field, but also linking
with related zoo-based activities) to meet regional programme strategic
objectives and to achieve maximum conservation impact and benefits to the
society
• Facilitation
of stakeholder involvement (overseas and within the zoo) to ensure strategic
objectives are met, including ensuring effective communication methods are in
place
• Working
directly with project partners, ensuring field activities are undertaken to the
desired standard and as planned, to meet the zoo's project management
standards, and to advise and assist with project logistics and administration
as required
• Effectively
monitor and evaluate conservation activities, including project budgets, to
inform management decisions and ensure conservation impact and value for money
is achieved
• Disseminate
information and assist in the production and presentation of internal and
external communications, in various media, to increase conservation awareness
of projects and general awareness of Chester Zoo's conservation activities
• Participate
in the delivery, publication and presentation of field research to further
biodiversity conservation and knowledge
• Provide
guidance, advice and training, where required, to field conservation staff (UK
and overseas) and members of other Chester Zoo departments to assist in their
conservation related activities
The successful
candidate will have:
• An
MSc or equivalent in a conservation related subject
• An
in depth knowledge of the conservation role of zoos
• In
depth and wide ranging knowledge of biodiversity conservation and good
understanding of conservation theory
• Field
research skills and extensive experience in developing countries
• Experience
travelling in tropical and developing countries
• Excellent
written and oral communications skills, and public speaking experience
• Strong
proof reading and editing skills
• An
excellent level of computer literacy
• Experience
in publishing and presenting scientific material
• Strong
organisational skills
• Experience
of grant applications
Although based in
the UK at Chester Zoo, this position will require frequent overseas travel.
The salary is
£26,449.09 per annum based on 35 hours per week. In addition we offer a range of amazing
