This is an exciting opportunity to get involved in the development and expansion of the Animal Management Unit and School Zoo at Bede’s during its development.

You will work under the direction of the Head of Animal Management, and will have considerable input as we move forward with the expansion of the School Zoo. Our collection currently consists of 420+ individuals of 68 different species ranging from Kinkajous and Meerkats to Stick Insects and Tarantulas.

The AMU Manager will embrace the department’s objectives of providing a first class educational experience for our students and to provide a center of excellence in terms of the welfare for the animals in our care.

Candidates should be educated to at least Level 3 in a relevant vocational subject or a biological science (biology, animal management, animal care, zoo management etc.), and be experienced with a range of exotic and domestic mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish and invertebrates. Candidates should also possess the practical skills necessary for both husbandry and enclosure maintenance/improvement.

A flexible approach to a varied workload, real enthusiasm for the animals you work with and an aptitude for working with teenagers are essential. Experience in supervising young people would be advantageous. You will be required to work occasional weekends.

Additional Information
•        30 days holiday per annum plus public holidays.

•        Regular working hours:
-        Term time - 08:15 to 17:15, Monday to Friday
-        School Holidays 10:00 – 15:00 Monday – Saturday

•        Must be willing to work some evenings (open evenings etc.), occasional nights (in an emergency), weekends and holidays and an occasional 24-hour emergency on-call when the Head of Animal management is absent.

•        Holding a current driving licence is essential
