Set in 25 hectares of lush and tranquil surroundings, Hamilton Zoo is home to more than 600 native and exotic animals.

 

We now have two exciting opportunities, one Zoo Keeper, Birds and Ectotherms and one Zoo Keeper, Carnivores!

 

If you love animals, this is a great opportunity for you to work across all zoo operations and primarily be responsible for the care and display of our animal exhibits.

 

To be successful, you will be a motivated team player with exceptional communication and collaboration skills that enable you to work seamlessly with others and support your team members.

 

You’ll need to have an understanding of modern zoo philosophies and be very safety conscious. The Zoo Keeper role offers a variety of mentally and physically demanding challenges, so being energetic and fit is important.

 

Previous experience in animal husbandry is a must with preference to Birds and Ectotherms or Carnivores. You should have an understanding of the zoo industry as well as a BScTech, Certificate in Animal Management (captive wild animals) or similar qualification or experience.

Ski Dubai is looking for a Head Penguin Trainer for their successful educational project in United Arab Emirates.

Working closely with the Curator and Senior Trainer, the Head Penguin Trainer is responsible for managing and working alongside staff, directing the penguin training program and maintaining high quality guest service.

Key Tasks:

·        Ensure responsible health protocol and daily maintenance of penguins

·        Oversee daily cleaning of exhibit

·        Oversee proper air and water quality

·        Oversee proper light cycles

·        Proficient in identification of animal behavioral problems/concerns with solutions to alleviate such concerns

·        Participate in daily penguin encounters

·        Assist and perform any veterinary procedures when required

·        Develop and conduct daily training of penguins regarding daily march and feeding and photo sessions with the public

·        Effective training techniques, applications, and tools

·        Develop and implement high-end show quality animal presentations

·        Develop and implement a high standard training and enrichment program

·        Prepare and maintain exhibit for penguin breeding season

·        Oversee records for each bird Instruct and mentor trainers

·        Performs other duties as required

Qualifications:

·        Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Zoology, related field or equivalent experience

·        Several years of training experience, preferably with marine mammals

·        Familiar with Word, Excel and animal record keeping systems

·        Ability to prepare and present PowerPoint presentations

·        Solid background in theater or public speaking

·        Scuba Diving certificate

Key Competencies:

·        The know-how of maintaining an animal population

·        Previous experience in staff supervision and team dynamics

·        Staff development.

·        Communication between departments and facilities

·        Water/air quality analytical equipment

·        Experience in egg Incubation and chick rearing

Typical Physical Demands:

·        Be able to lift 25kg to shoulder height

·        Carry materials, transport boxes, buckets, etc. throughout the facility

·        Standing, walking, and working for long periods in a very cold environment.

Section Head – Animal Events

 Permanent – Full time – 40 hours per week (annualised).

A unique opportunity has arisen for an experienced ‘Animal Events’ Section Head to join our zoo and offers scope and potential to lead the Events team into the next phase in Blackpool Zoos future.

The role dictates that a ‘hands on’ approach will be required and an emphasis on coaching of individuals and team building is essential. You will need to be able to manage and prioritize a diverse workload and have problem solving skills. 


As well as being responsible for your section, you will also be part of the Senior Animal Management team within the zoo. In this role, you will help to develop and move forward the animal department as we come out of the restrictions imposed due to the Covid pandemic, leading to new and exciting times for your section and the zoo in general.

 

You will need to demonstrate a public focused attitude with a clear understanding of the important role within the zoo that our interactive & informative displays have on our visitors, by delivering the Zoos Education & Conservation messages through a well presented display you can help influence in excess of 500,000 visitors per year and contribute to the continued success of our associated in-situ conservation projects linked to these displays.

As well as being skilled in training new behaviours (various taxa) you will have excellent presentation skills and will need to be hard working, physically fit, enthusiastic and reliable.

 

The section currently maintains a large group of Californian Sea Lions and a number of display birds including, Bird of Prey, small & large parrots. As the lead member of the Events team, you will be responsible for planning and presenting both the sea lion and bird displays and facilitating various animal experiences.

 

 A minimum of 6 years working within the industry with at least 4 years presenting and animal training experience in a similar environment, plus proven people management skills and the DMZAA course, or equivalent, are essential.

 

A full driving license is essential.

Role Profile

An opening has arisen for a Keeper on our Elephant section at ZSL Whipsnade Zoo. With ZSL Whipsnade Zoo’s new Centre for Elephant Care opened in April 2017, holding 6 Asian Elephants across over 20 acres of their facility it is an exciting time to be a part of this dynamic team. The Elephant section at Whipsnade Zoo is constantly evolving ensuring the highest standards of welfare and research is being carried out. This position will also assist the Team Leader, Deputy Team Leader and other Senior Keepers in all aspects of their work but primarily the care of the animals, ensuring high standards of animal welfare, animal husbandry and the recording of data so evidence-based decisions can be made.

We are an evolving rescue and rehabilitation centre and we are continually improving the standards of husbandry and welfare for the primates in our care. As a result, we are excited to be expanding our Primate Care Team, to help us achieve even higher standards.

 

Location - Monkey World Ape Rescue Centre, Dorset BH20 6HH

 

This internationally-acclaimed rescue centre, in 65 acres of beautiful Dorset woodland, is home to over 250 primates.  Many have been neglected, kept in unnatural conditions, or experienced unbelievable cruelty.  At Monkey World, we strive to provide them company of their own kind in a safe and natural environment.

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities include:

·       Carrying out and enforcing high standards of welfare and animal husbandry routines as set by section Leaders.

·       Undertake & record animal observations accurately and effectively.

·       Deliver high standards of visitor engagement in the form of keeper talks.

·       Other supporting duties to enhance effective and efficient running of the park such as food ordering and organisation of animal care stores, etc.

 

You will have:

·      A minimum of 2 years’ experience in an animal care role – ideally this will include working with primates.

·      Enthusiasm, high standards and motivation.

·      A desire to be a part of a close knit team.

·      A positive outlook and excellent communication skills at all levels.

·      A sound practical knowledge and skill set in animal husbandry.

·      Strong observation skills.

Desirable:

·      A relevant animal-related qualification

·      Proven success or knowledge of operant conditioning.

·      Full clean driving licence due to location

·      Experience of public speaking

·      Commitment to continued professional development.

Further information:

·      The role is full time and includes weekend working as part of the current rolling roster system.

·      Hours of work are 08:30 - 17:00 September to June 08:30 - 18:00 July and August

·      Salary is paid monthly. 28 days holiday inclusive of bank holidays per annum

·      Staff accommodation subject to availability.
