Working at our ZAA accredited Wildlife Park in the stunning area of Port Stephens! is pretty awesome. We are looking for a team player with supervisory experience who strives for the best and who is ambitious, a driven individual with a wealth of animal knowledge and experience to help manage and develop our ever-growing animal collection.

Here at Oakvale we are committed to providing exciting conservation initiatives through education, research programs and through our growing threatened and endangered species breeding programs as well as through our ‘Save Our Wildlife’ Program.

The right applicant will possess a professional and positive approach, the right personality to fit with our team coupled with the passion and knowledge to make improvements to the departments.

The aim of this post is to bring further growth and development to the departments and to assist the Senior keeper and Curator throughout the process.


Selection Criteria:

Possess sound knowledge and understanding of the animal husbandry related practices, including capture and restraint, dietary requirements, reproduction etc. relating to the species kept in the Reptile and Bird Departments at Oakvale. Species such as a wide variety of Pythons, Lizards, Monitors, various species of Crocodilian along with various Avian species including Ratites, Raptors, & Psittacine etc.

Experience working with exotic & native reptiles and birds will be advantageous.

Experience in positive animal training techniques, conditioning and enrichment.

A minimum of 3 years’ paid experience in the industry within a similar role.

A minimum of Certificate III in Captive Animals or equivalent university studies.

Strong customer service skills

An ability to prioritize workloads and instruct staff and volunteers to reflect those priorities.

WHS awareness and the ability to identify and report safety concerns in the workplace.

Possess a good understanding of Microsoft word, excel and power point.

Working Knowledge of species 360.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.

Exceptional presentation and public speaking skills.

Sound time management skills.

A flexible, positive, and professional attitude.

A passion to grow and develop Departments within a zoological institution.

A drive for educating others on the importance of high husbandry standards.

Ability to drive a manual vehicle with a driver’s license

Plus a living out allowance or £2,600 per annum pro-rata to working hours, if onsite accommodation is not required or available.

 

Howletts Wild Animal Park is a 90-acre site set in Bekesbourne, Kent and works in conjunction with The Aspinall Foundation, a charity committed to the conservation of rare and endangered animals through breeding and reintroduction programmes. We are home to a collection of rare and endangered primates, including Javan gibbons, Dusky langurs, Sulawesi macaques, Pied tamarins and Gelada baboons to name a few.

 

We are seeking an enthusiastic, motivated, and experienced Primate Keeper with an interest in animal management. You must have previous experience of working with primates, in a mainstream zoological collection, with an awareness of current conservation issues and a passion for animal welfare. This position is a key role which will involve providing the highest standards of welfare and husbandry to all primate species on section, providing high standards of daily tasks, including feeding and cleaning primates as well as diet preparation. The applicant must be enthusiastic in contributing to the enrichment of the primate species around the park and must be confident in speaking to groups of people and interacting with the public. The successful candidate will assist the Veterinary department with primate sedations and after care, as well as being involved with the preparation and distribution of medication. As an experienced keeper, you will also help to facilitate training to less experienced keepers, as well as acting as a contact on the section in the absence of the Section Head and Deputy.

 

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 3 years’ experience working in a similar role and environment and will hold a conversation relation degree or have exceptional experience in the zoo industry. A practical and proactive approach coupled with excellent organisation and communication skills are essential, as is a full valid driving licence. A reliable mode of transport is recommended due to our remote location. All applicants must have right to work in the UK.

 

If on-site accommodation is not available or required, then a living out allowance is paid. Living out allowance is £2,600 gross per annum (pro rata to working hours).

 

Working 40 hours over a 5-day week, the successful candidate will have a genuinely flexible approach to working hours which will include weekends and bank holidays. All applicants must have the right to work in the UK.

Central to DWCT’s ‘Rewild Our World’ strategy are our ten global rewilding sites, two of which are in Madagascar: Madagascan wetlands and Madagascan dry forests. DWCT’s Madagascar Programme is our single largest investment, with a full-time workforce of over 70 employees working in six field sites across the country.

 

The post-holder will have the responsibility for all the Programme’s research activities, population surveys, monitoring programmes and reintroduction projects. They will work closely with the Heads of Programmes and Community Conservation to ensure delivery of the programme’s strategic plans, ensuring the implementation of species recovery projects and providing the information required to monitor and adapt our programmes to ensure maximum impact.

About the Role

 

Hartpury is looking for an ambitious, driven individual with a wealth of animal knowledge and experience to manage and develop a growing animal collection as an outstanding learning resource for all animal related practical activity serving the curriculum and industry skills of College and University students.

This is an exciting and pivotal time to join Hartpury to lead a team as the animal department evolves with university student numbers predicted to grow substantially over the coming years plus existing and potential facility development.  

 

 

About You

 

·      You will have current and extensive animal experience within the animal industry or an educational animal establishment with an excellent understanding of best husbandry practices for a variety of domestic and exotic species.

·      You will demonstrate a sound knowledge of animal welfare standards and legislation

·      You will have previous experience within an education environment and/or show an understanding of the curriculum with a motivation to inspire learners to be highly employable through completion of the Hartpury Certificate and achievement of excellent results.

·      You have proven experience in staff management and team leadership

·      You are hardworking and demonstrate high standards with a positive attitude.
