The
government of Sharjah, Environment and Protected Areas Authority (EPAA), United Arab Emirates has been developing the
state of the art ‘Sharjah Safari’ (SS) due to open soon. Animal welfare and visitor engagement are a high priority
for Sharjah Safari. A master Education Strategy is currently being developed.
We
are currently recruiting experienced zoo-educators or science teachers to help
set up and train an educator team.
There are three positions: 1 Head of
Education (HE) and 2 Assistant Heads
of Education (AHE). The HE should
have a minimum 10 years experience in zoo
education/ science teaching
and the AHE minimum
5 years.

The
United Arab Emirates promotes women in the work place. There are no

Housing
will be provided on the location in a communal compound with villa’s and apartments and a shared garden, barbeque
area and swimming pool. Location is in a rural
desert area. Nearest shops are at 3
km to Al Dhaid or 45 kms
to Sharjah or Dubai.
The
position will be on a contract basis for 2 years, renewable. Salary:
competitive, depending on experience. Comprehensive health insurance
is included.

descriptions:
Assistant Head of Education (Public education):
ü
Lead and motivate
team of Senior safari guides & Safari guides
ü Develop and implement Sharjah Safari
Educational strategy
ü Lead long-term
training of local Senior safari guides & Safari guides
ü
Initiate and supervise
conservation campaigns
ü Initiate
and supervise public events connected to SS animals and SS conservation initiatives (e.g. world giraf day, world hornbill
day, world sustainability day
etc)
ü Develop
and implement cooperative agreements with local community centres (youth,
women, special needs…)
ü Evaluate effectiveness of campaigns and events together
with social scientist
ü Represent EPAA at relevant
national and international conferences
ü
Report to Head of Education
Assistant Head of Education (Formal
education):
ü
Lead and motivate
team of local Senior guides &
Safari guides
ü
Develop and implement Sharjah
Safari Educational strategy
ü
Develop and implement lesson plans for primary
and secondary schools
ü Establish contacts
with primary and secondary schools in the Emirate of Sharjah
ü Research
primary and seconday school needs in relation to Sharjah Safari in the Emirate
of Sharjah
ü
Set up a consultative group
of Sharjah teachers
to advise Sharjah
Safari
ü Develop
and implement cooperative agreements with interested schools in the Emirate
of Sharjah
ü
Report to Head of Education
Recruitment conditions:
Assistant Head of Education (Public education):
ü
Degree in Biology or similar with at least 5 years work
experience
ü
Keen interest in animals, nature
& environment.
ü Good command of English
ü Proven management and leadership skills
ü Ability to motivate a team
ü
Experience with or interest in impact evaluation research
= added advantage
Assistant Head of Education (Formal
education):
ü
Primary or secondary
school teacher certificate with at least 5 years work experience
ü Keen interest
in animals, nature
& environment.
ü
Good command of English
ü
Proven management and leadership skills
ü Ability to motivate a team
ü Experience with or interest
in impact evaluation research = added advantage
