Experienced Bird Handler with Falconry Experience (U.K.)

Experienced Bird Handler with Falconry Experience (U.K.)

Suffolk Owl Sanctuary in the U.K. is looking to recruit an experienced Bird Handler with falconry experience to join our small team.

Suffolk Owl Sanctuary is continually making improvements to our programme, such as moving almost all of our birds to a free-lofted environment, using enrichment and positive reinforcement training to enhance and encourage natural behaviours from our birds, and our daily flying displays which are amongst the best in the UK.

The successful applicant will continue this work by having practical knowledge of modern Bird of Prey husbandry guidelines, including bird accommodation, diet, flight training and displays, general bird health and veterinary requirements, together with a full understanding of Zoo Licensing.

We are looking for a team player with a can-do attitude, as well as working with volunteers and work experience students. Excellent communication and presentation experience are central to this role to maintain a high level of engagement with visitors to the centre, which is open daily throughout the year, and to our wider audience of supporters in the community and online.

Suffolk Owl Sanctuary is home to over 80 Raptors from around the world, including Owls, Hawks, Falcons, Eagles and Vultures. Applicants will be expected to work with all of these species, and any future acquisitions brought into the collection.

In addition to our captive collection, Suffolk Owl Sanctuary runs a busy Raptor Hospital for sick and injured wild Birds of Prey. Applicants may be asked to assist with the day-to-day care of patients and liaise with staff and veterinarians to ensure the best care is provided.

The hours of work are 8.30am to 5pm daily, working 5 days out of 7, including weekends and bank holidays. Overtime may be required, as per the demands of the organisation, for which time off in lieu will be given. The pay level offered will be commensurate with skill levels and experience, and above the industry average.

Applicants should note they should currently be resident in the U.K. Please forward a letter of application together with your CV and salary expectations to The General Manager at info@owl-help.org.uk
