Field Programme
Coordinator
Chester Zoo
Cheshire
Full Time permanent
(35 hours per week)
Chester Zoo is the
UK’s No.1 top zoo, providing visitors with a fun-packed day out, but with a
serious mission - to be a major force in conserving biodiversity worldwide.
To save species from
extinction we need dedicated and passionate individuals. We are recruiting a
Field Programme Coordinator to work with like-minded individuals in our Field
Programmes Team. You’ll also be working closely with various other zoo teams who
contribute to our conservation work and, of course, with our partners overseas.
Through our flagship
conservation programmes we have major commitments to save threatened species
and habitats in a range of biodiversity hotspots worldwide. The Field Programme
Coordinator will take forward the development of an exciting new phase of our
Nigeria Programme, a major component of which is protecting the wildlife of
Gashaka Gumti National Park, one of West Africa’s last wildernesses. You will
work closely with project partners, including our field staff, the in-country
project manager, the Nigerian National Park Service, local communities and our
academic partners, to coordinate and develop this programme. Depending on
experience and knowledge you’ll also be involved in other conservation
programmes and activities.
The Field Programme
Coordinator will need to be someone who understands biodiversity conservation
(in-situ and ex-situ) – not only the theory, but also practical experience of
how to transfer theory into action to deliver results. We are looking for someone
with a minimum of an MSc or equivalent in a conservation related subject and
experience of managing conservation projects. The Field Programme Coordinator
will coordinate research to meet conservation aims and will need field research
experience and experience in publishing and presenting scientific material.
Superb
communications skills will be vital; the Field Programme Coordinator will need
to be an excellent communicator, able to work in different cultures and
negotiate effective partnerships to achieve project objectives. We also need to
tell the world what we are doing, bring in funding and make the most of the
varied expertise we have in the zoo – so you’ll be working closely with many
different zoo teams such as Discovery & Learning, Marketing &
Development and the curators and keepers.
This is a full-time
position (35 hours per week, Monday-Friday) mainly based at Chester Zoo, but
with significant periods spent in the field. The salary is £25,865 per annum
for a 35 hour week.
