Deputy Head Keeper

We’re looking for a highly motivated individual to take
on a brand new role here at the park as Deputy Head Keeper.
This exciting opportunity will see you working
closely with the park’s Head Keeper, helping to steer the direction of the park’s
collection and manage the day to day running of the animal team.
Key Responsibilities:
·
Working with a diverse range of animals,
covering all areas of animal
husbandry
·
Training staff to deliver talks
and presentations
·
Record Keeping, using ZIMS.
·
Assisting with the training and development of staff.
·
Routine maintenance and cleaning of animal enclosures.
·
Assisting with the development & preparation of approved diets and carrying out the correct feeding
procedures
·
Preparing, carrying out and monitoring a range of veterinary procedures as instructed
by the Head Keeper and Lead Vet
·
Carrying our risk assessments and ensuring staff adhere to health and safety
protocols.
·
Creating rotas and implementing rotas
·
Aiding with the development of new enclosures
·
Aiding with development of training plans,
animal husbandry & staff training.
·
Dealing with day to day issues & challenges
Key Skills & Requirements:
·
5 year’s experience working as an animal keeper as part
of a zoological collection.
·
Enthusiastic and
highly motivated.
·
Positive attitude towards personal growth & a
comprehensive knowledge of animal husbandry
·
Excellent team worker
with excellent communication
skills.
·
Diploma in the Management of Zoo Animals
and Aquaria (DMZAA)
or similar, relevant
qualification
·
Experience working with category one animals, especially large carnivores
·
Proficient using ZIMS
·
Proven history in a supervisory role
·
Full UK Driving License
·
Firearms License (desirable)
This is a
full-time position working 40 hours per week.
Pay will be dependent on experience and will include
