Freshwater Fish Specialist Group (FFSG)

Part Time (c.24 hours per week)



In collaboration with the IUCN-SSC and Wetlands International, the Chair of the Freshwater Fish Specialist Group (FFSG), is seeking to recruit a Programme Officer for maternity cover on a part time basis for six months, starting in March 2013 (with potential extension). The main focus of the work will be to support freshwater fish conservation activities, to maintain and develop the website, to prepare newsletters, to assist in fundraising, to organize the annual FFSG conference, maintain and develop the database of members and keep close contact with them, and to liaise with the Regional Chairs.

Candidates will have a degree in freshwater fish, or fisheries, or aquatic biology or a related field. A higher degree is an advantage, as is previous experience in fundraising. Excellent written and spoken English is essential, a second language (preferably Spanish) is desirable. Excellent organisational, IT (knowledge of website and newsletter designer programme is an advantage) and social skills and the ability to work on own and use initiative; but seek and follow general guidance as necessary are essential.

Rate of pay is £12.48 per hour. Hours are 24 hours per week which may include occasional weekends, evenings and Bank Holidays, when required, and possibly some UK and overseas travel. Flexible hours are available. The post will be based at either the Cambridge office of the IUCN Freshwater Biodiversity Unit or at Chester Zoo but offers home-working opportunities as well.
