Animal Health Technician

Animal Health Technician

International Zoo Veterinary Group

IZVG is currently seeking to recruit an experienced, full-time Animal Health Technician.

International Zoo Veterinary Group (IZVG) was founded in 1976 and is the largest freelance zoo medicine practice in the world, working exclusively with non-domestic species. IZVG Pathology was established in 2003 and provides dedicated anatomic pathology services for the practice’s zoo, aquarium and wildlife conservation work. IZVG is based in Keighley, on the edge of the beautiful Yorkshire Dales and within easy travelling distance of the Lake District, and close to the larger cities of Leeds and Bradford. Relocation may not be essential for this role.

The role:  Animal Health Technicians are responsible for supporting the practice with specialised administration and research tasks, a diverse role predominantly working closely with the clinicians.

Day to day duties include:

    •   Management, organisation and communication of the Animal Health Enquiry Form (AHEF) system to include detailed medical and clinical advice from the vets as well as advising directly on husbandry techniques and improvements.

    •   Liaison with IZVG staff in other departments as well as daily contact with the clinical vet team is part of the role.

    •   Management of the aquarium clinicians’ calendars to produce and publish Pre-Visit reports for all AHEF clients prior to a visit, summarising all key AHEFs with associated drug lists.

    •   Training and education where required, (for example but not limited to Fish Health and Husbandry Course, Enrichment course and Reptile Health and Husbandry Course) to include building, updating, delivering and facilitating the courses with occasional travel.

    •   Individual projects that complement existing IZVG tools and management with a focus on providing the best service and advice.

    •   Research, support and assistance as assigned by the clinicians when required.
