Worldwide Zoo Consultants is a growing company dedicated to developing and managing zoological and aquarium facilities around the world. Our team is made up of animal care specialists, animal trainers, project managers, zoological operations experts and zoological managers from all backgrounds. Position Summary:

 

As a Project Manager you will be responsible for the planning, organising, and directing the completion of Animal projects for our company while ensuring these projects are on time, on budget, and within scope.  Oversee all aspects of projects as outline below. Demonstrate excellent representation of the Company at all times through a positive, can-do attitude and teamwork focused work ethic. 

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

 

Animals:

·       Have oversight of the animal collection and management strategies.

·       Set and hold staff to account for their standards in animal care, welfare and enclosure presentation.

·       Oversee the monitoring of all animal behaviour.

·       Provide additional animal care as necessary, beyond the routine, such as to attend sick animals as required.

·       Co-ordinate, and assist with the capture and restraint of animals, for enclosure movement, veterinary examination or export from the collection, while minimising stress and ensuring the maximum amount of information is collected during each event.

·       Act as Registrar. Ensure accurate records of animal movements, births, deaths, transactions, reproductive and behaviour are kept, ensuring a full set of data is available for each animal to facilitate future management and research.

·       Cover for different animal rounds if necessary to prevent any breakdown in procedures due to staff days off, illness or holiday leave of staff members within the department.

·       Implement and oversee the management of:

·       breeding programmes;

·       enrichment programmes;

·       animal monitoring programmes;

·       care plans;

·       behavioural monitoring;

·       animal management techniques.

·       Ensure staff maintain high standards of cleanliness in all animal enclosures, food preparation and storage rooms.

·       Be the veterinary main point of contact. This includes preparing for all vet visits, ensuring accurate medical records, planning tests, quarantine requirements, vaccinations, contraception as needed, maintaining medical stock on site.

 

ADMINISTRATION:

·         Management of the deliverables schedule and execution

·         Avoid delays and maintain compliance with contractual obligations

·       Assist in the definition of project scope and objectives, involving all relevant management and ensuring technical feasibility

·       Ensure resource availability and allocation

·       Develop a detailed project plan to monitor and track progress

·       Manage changes to the project scope, project schedule, and project costs using appropriate verification techniques

·       Measure performance using appropriate project management tools and techniques

·       Report and escalate to management as needed

·       Meet budgetary objectives and adjust project constraints based on financial analysis

·       Lead and develop team by training, guidance and communication

·       Attend conferences and training as required to maintain proficiency

·       Perform other related duties as assigned

 

Staff Management:

·      Lead the animal department team, comprising of keeper staff at all levels, and volunteers.

·      Ensure the smooth running of the department by providing logistical support and rostering, and in resolving staff issues if required.

·      Manage staff (including regular team meetings and recruitment) and monitor their respective performance (including appraisals and regular reviews), ensuring they have appropriate training and career development opportunities.

·      Meet regularly with the animal department staff to ensure any necessary information is passed on for the day to day running of the department. 

 

Position Requirements: 

·                7 years + experience with animal husbandry required. 

·                5 year + in a similar management role required. 

·                Competency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint. 

·                Experience managing large multicultural teams.  

·                Exceptional leadership skills. 

·                Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 

·                Experience managing departmental budgets.  

·                Creative problem solver.
