Wildlife Trust has an opening to join our committed team as an experienced
animal keeper on a full-time basis covering maternity leave.
Shaldon
Wildlife Trust is a small zoo on the Devon coast, set in an acre of
woodland. We are the smallest member of BIAZA and EAZA. Despite this, we
are active members of the zoo community and support conservation projects all
over the word. Over the years we have gained a great deal of expertise in the
breeding of many species and are regarded highly in this field.
The Role
Involves:
· Day to day husbandry of animals in
the zoo including feeding, cleaning, training and record keeping
· Interacting with the zoo visitors
with regular keeper talks and delivering our popular encounters and experiences
Strict adherence to safe working practices.
· Coaching our volunteers and work
experience placements so interpersonal skills and the ability to motivate
others will be essential
· A good understanding of risk
assessments is required to ensure all members of staff are fully aware of
safety and management procedures.
The Candidate Will:
· Be a good team worker with a positive
outlook
· Have excellent communication skills
· Be able to organise and prioritise
tasks.
· Have exceptional time keeping skills.
· Have a minimum of 3 years zoo keeping
experience
· An animal-related qualification, such
as DZMAA would be advantageous.
The role is full time (37.5 hours a week), working a rota and will include some
weekend work. Salary is paid monthly. We provide uniform and 28 days
holiday per annum.

This vacancy has been posted out to the many thousands who read the popular Zoo Jobs Blog Page and then on to the 129,400 plus followers of the ZooNews Digest Facebook Page. It is then immediately forwarded on to Twitter and then to Pinterest and Linkedin (8,000+ connections). Many vacancies are shared to individuals and groups. In short your vacancy will have the potential of reaching something in the region of some 80,000 plus people within 24 hours.
