• Qualifications in Zoo Keeping (or related disciplines) or enrolled in Certificate III in Captive Animals.

• Knowledge and experience in captive animal husbandry.

• Experience with animal training and conditioning techniques with either large ungulates, carnivores or primates.

• Possess a working knowledge of the biology and behaviour of a diverse range of species and their conservation needs.

• Demonstrated customer service and team work ethos.

• Hold a current manual NSW Class C Drivers Licence.

The Highland Wildlife Park is modernizing and expanding to meet and exceed the demands of visitors for the best facilities and services, while maintaining its excellent standards of animal welfare and enhancing its conservation and education activities. The Animal, Education & Conservation Department plays a central, dynamic part in this process.

A vacancy has arisen for an Education Officer working within the Animal, Education, Conservation team. This role is to be part of the team communicating to visitors and developing and delivering the RZSS learning programme at HWP and working on the RZSS supported Tooth & Claw initiative www.toothandclaw.org.uk .

This role requires good communication skills and ability to relate to different age and ability groups. Organisational and administration skills are also an advantage. The successful candidate will need to work in close collaboration with others and the post requires flexible working and includes working weekends, and is offered initially as a 0.8 position (equivalent to an average of 30 hours a week).

The successful candidate will preferably have a degree and experience of giving presentations/ public speaking, education/teaching in formal or informal context and working with diverse age groups, and have a good level of animal / environmental knowledge, a particular interest in people and predator issues is useful, and excellent customer care.

This is a permanent post with salary in the region of £16,500 pro rata.

Twycross Zoo, based in Leicestershire, is a registered charity and is famous for its collection of primates.We are proud of the work we do in conservation and education and take part in many captive breeding programmes for endangered animals. About three quarters of the animals housed at Twycross are classed as endangered species.
We need an experienced primate keeper to join one of our primate sections caring for callitrichides, spider monkeys, woolly monkeys, howlers, langurs, colobus and guenons. It is ideal if you have already achieved an animal-related qualification, but it is more important to have “hands on” experience of caring for primates. We are not looking for more trainee keepers at this point

Pay ranges from £15,735 pa for a Grade 2 Keeper up to £17,346 pa for a Senior Keeper.Grade is determined by the job holder’s level of competence, expertise and knowledge, not length of service. The shift pattern is 6 days on and 2 off and we offer 31 days holiday, uniform, 5% pension contribution and the possibility of on-site accommodation.

Located in the state of Qatar, the Al Wabra Wildlife Preservation (AWWP) is a private wildlife breeding centre. AWWP maintains around 2000 animals (800 birds, 1,100 mammals and 100 herps) of approximately 90 species. The mammal collection focuses mainly on ungulates and some cats. Many of those species are threatened (Addax, Arabian Oryx, Dama -, Spekes -, Red fronted- Soemmering’s gazelles etc., Cheethas, Somali Wild Ass) or unique in captivity (Beira Antelope, Phillips Dikdik). An international team of veterinarians, curators, biologists and keepers (43 staff)
runs the wildlife preservation. AWWP is associate member of EAZA , non-commercial and not open to the public.

Job description for the position as a Mammal Curator’s Assistant

• Assistance in all fields of curators work

• Mammal data administration and encoding

• Instructing and supervising staff

• Organising all daily routine within respective sections

• Administration of food stock and deliveries

• Administration of tool stock

• Animal breeding management

• Animal monitoring

• Keeper replacement

• Nursery work

General Information: Located in the state of Qatar, the Al Wabra Wildlife Preservation (AWWP) is the private wildlife breeding centre of Sheikh Saoud Bin Mohammed Bin Ali Al-Thani. AWWP maintains around 2000 animals (800 birds, 1,100 mammals and 100 herps) of approximately 90 species. The bird collection focuses mainly on Birds of Paradise and threatened psittacines, as well as several species of ornamental birds.

The majority of the bird collection is housed in the purpose-built breeding complex, with outdoor aviaries and air-conditioned indoor units. An international team of veterinarians, curators, biologists and keepers (43 staff) runs the wildlife preservation. AWWP is associate member of EAZA and is non-commercial and not open to the
public.

Job Description: The Assistant to the Bird Curator is responsible for supporting the Bird Curator in all aspects of management of the Bird Department, including:

• Aviary maintenance, planting and design.

• Supervision of Bird keepers’ daily routine and food preparation.

• Management of reproductive activity, including bird socializations, maintenance of nest structures and monitoring of eggs, chicks and nest-building behavior.

• Artificial incubation and hand-rearing.

• Supervision of the daily distribution of birds’ medications and routine disease monitoring, as well as assistance in veterinary treatments.

• Supervision and assistance in bird transfers.

• Record-keeping, data collection and data encoding.

• Preparation of guidelines, protocols and working schedules for Bird Department personnel.

• Administration and record-keeping of Bird Department human resources.

• Management of food stocks and insect production.

• Management of equipment, tools and consumption materials.

Applicants for the position must fulfill the following requirements:

• Basic computer skills (Word, Excel and internet as a minimum).

• High level capability in oral and written English.

• Ability to work independently as well as within a team.

The following experiences/skills would be beneficial for the application:

• Experience in bird husbandry, nutrition, disease, ecology and behavior.

General Information:

Al Wabra Wildlife Preservation is Sheikh Saoud Al Thani’s private breeding centre for threatened animals and is not open to the public. Since January 2000, he introduced a completely new management team. Now, it’s keeping approximately 2000 animals (about 100 amphibians/reptiles; 500 birds; 1,400 mammals) of 90 different species. An international team of veterinarians, curators, biologists and keepers (around 42 staff) runs the preservation.



Job Description for the position as a Blue Macaw Co-ordinator:

 Daily “hands-on” management of all the Spix’s, Lear’s and Hyacinth Macaws including feeding/food preparation and hygiene management. Daily observation of behaviour and health status, written documentation and reporting to the director.

 Enclosure maintenance, monitor; construction-work, surveillance cameras, prepare cages and nest boxes routinely.

 Egg management, monitor artificial incubation and hand-rearing of Blue Macaw chicks.

 Contribute to guidelines, protocols and proposals for procedures, schedules and action plans.

 Organize the daily routines and personnel on the section including work and feeding schedules.

 Seasonally flexible working hours (feeding chicks around the clock if necessary).

 Collect data on the birds, and fill in data to computer programs.



Applicants for the position must fulfil the following requirements:

- Have a high interest in nature and wildlife especially birds

- Significant experience with keeping and rearing parrots, especially Macaws.

- Experience in hand-rearing of Macaws

- Basic computer skill, Word and Excel

- Oral and written English skills

- Patient and sensitive to the animal’s needs

- Flexibility and good organizational skills

- Driving licence

Shepreth Wildlife Park is looking for an experienced animal keeper to join our team. The successful candidate will be expected to work with a variety of taxa, including small mammals, primates, birds, reptiles and invertebrates. All of our keepers are encouraged to participate in a range of activities which include environmental enrichment and education.


In addition to general husbandry requirements, the position will involve public presentations both on and off-site with a range of invertebrates and reptiles. Experience in falconry (preferably Lantra Approved) would be an advantage.

The successful candidate will have at least three years experience working in an animal collection and relevant academic qualifications. They will also be enthusiastic, reliable and a good team player, and must have held a clean driving licence for at least 2 years.



Days: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Sunday.
Hours: 9am - 6pm (Peak) 9am - 5pm (Off- Peak)

Position Description: As a Keeper, you will have primary responsibility for the care and well being of animals under your attendance. Zoo Keepers must also be understanding and sensitive to the needs of the animals under their care. They are responsible for the animal exhibit’s, involved with maintenance and landscaping and presenting at daily demonstrations. Zoo Keepers are dedicated to conservation issues and animal welfare.

Zoo keepers at Australia Zoo continually work towards providing improved facilities and care for the animals. They do this with enthusiasm and motivation towards their individual learning and training.

Duties will include:


•Maintain proper cleaning procedures.

•Maintain health and safety procedures as directed by senior keepers.

•Maintain security procedures.

•Follow instructions in a safe and secure manner.

•Learn introduction process with cats.

•Establish good relationship with cats.

•Form an understanding of cat behaviour.

•Form a brief understanding of each of the cats personalities.

•Form brief understanding of leash training.

•Form a brief understanding of back-up duties on walks.

•Form good communication skills with public and media.

•Prepare diets, and gain knowledge on cat nutrition.

•Have a good understanding of exhibit or requirements for felids.

•Perform all hands on contact with big cats under direct supervision.

•Work within the guidelines of health and safety procedures to ensure both animal and personal, and visitor security.

•Participate in performance training and development reviews or programs as requested by the company both on and off the job.

•Attend meetings as requested by Management and Supervisors.

•Other duties as requested by Senior Management

With the completion of Blackpool Zoo’s Active Oceans devolvement we are looking to employ a full time experienced Sea Lion Presenter/Trainer, to assist and help develop the events side of the zoo’s animal department.

The successful candidate will assist in the care, training, and presenting of the zoo’s sea lions and will be involved in all aspects of their animal husbandry. They will also assist on other parts of the Large Mammal Section and other events animals.

You will need to be hard working, physically fit, enthusiastic and reliable. A minimum of 3 years Animal training and presenting experience (2 years with sea lions), plus proven people skills, and a qualification related to animals/wildlife or a willingness to undertake the Advanced National Certificate in the Management of Zoo Animals.

Although at the moment the main focus will be the management and training of sea lions, birds & other mammals may eventually be used.

In addition, there is a requirement to work unsociable hours including weekends and bank holidays on a rota basis.

Flamingo Land zoological department is looking for an experienced zoo keeper to join our team. Flamingo Land is one of the leading tourist attractions in the UK, attracting more than 1.4 million visitors each year. The zoo is in an exciting phase of development that has recently seen the creation of a number of themed zoogeographic areas and the development of the education and conservation departments. The successful candidate will be expected to work with a variety of taxa, including large ungulates, carnivores, primates, birds and reptiles. All of our zoo keepers are encouraged to participate in a range of activities which include research, environmental enrichment and education.



You will have at least three years experience working in a zoological collection and have passed the Advanced National Certificate in the Management of Zoo Animals. Port Lympne Wild Animal Park is seeking an experienced and hardworking dedicated keeper to deputise in a small team of enthusiastic likeminded keepers. We have one of the leading collections of large carnivores in the UK including snow leopards, tigers, lions, cheetah, wild dogs, wolves and hyenas. The position will also include some reptile work.

This is a very physical role and the successful applicant will be expected to undertake all duties on the section from cutting up/prepping meat, cleaning, maintaining records to designing and building enclosures. The deputy will be required to manage the section in the absence of the Section Manager. Conservation education plays a big role in the park so there will be plenty of opportunities for doing talks and displays to the public.

You must have significant experience working with large carnivores in a zoo park or equivalent environment and posses an excellent knowledge of large carnivores. Hands on catch and restraint experience and meat preparation experience is a must as is a full valid driving licence. We are looking for an individual who is hardworking, passionate and committed with a knowledge of current conservation issues and experience in recordkeeping, writing risk assessments and presenting talks to the public.

Some reptile experience would be an advantage as would a firearm licence and experience gained in off road driving. An animal management qualification or equivalent is not essential but would be an advantage as would experience in a supervisory or leadership role.

The post holder will act as a Course/Group Tutor to one of the courses offered within the Animal management area, liaising with the other staff, course team and the Learner Manager.

The post holder will undertake teaching of a primarily theoretical nature with occasional practical instruction, demonstration, portfolio building, key skills, life skills development and the other appropriate work relating to students’ learning programmes.

The post holder will have a suitable Animal Management or related subject qualification such as Veterinary Nursing qualification, HND or Foundation Degree in Animal Management or a related subject, and ideally some experience with learner from 14 years of age. Experience of dealing with young people and the challenges they bring would be advantageous. The successful candidate will preferably have teaching experience, and must have relevant animal related industrial experience, and be able to demonstrate competent handling of a wide range of animals and hold or be willing to attain a recognised teaching qualification including the A1 assessors award.

A unique opportunity to work at the stunning location of Pensthorpe Nature Reserve,  host of BBC’s Springwatch, located in North Norfolk - in this newly created role.

Pensthorpe spans the River Wensum, a Special Area for Conservation (SAC), and is home to a wide collection of captive species as well as being a Mecca for migratory and native wildlife. Pensthorpe Conservation Trust is part of national breeding and reintroduction program for corncrakes, cranes and red squirrels.

This is a senior level, hands on, role providing leadership of the species conservation team at Pensthorpe, particularly in relation to: the management, housing & exhibition, interpretation, husbandry of animals, the education of visitors, and compliance and administration associated with industry best practice and zoo licensing regulations. The role will also benefit from advice and guidance from the Head of Species Management. The role encompasses oversight of the conservation land management team at Pensthorpe and will involve a close working relationship with the Senior Warden.

The post will report to the General Manager and, ultimately, share a Duty Manager role to ensure day-to-day operations run smoothly. A significant proportion of the job is outdoors and will be undertaken in all weathers and out of typical working hours, as animal welfare considerations are paramount. The position is ideally suited to someone with a zoological background but with a passion for wildlife.

Knowledge and Experience

• At least 7 years experience in the exhibition of animals, captive breeding and zoo animal husbandry

• Demonstrable knowledge of conservation issues

• Demonstrable experience of the zoo/captive breeding environment and the keeping of appropriate records, preferably including ARKS and ZIMS records software.

• Formal qualifications or extensive experience in zoo keeping or conservation breeding

Personal Qualities

• Ability to lead a small dedicated team.

• Dedication to the exhibition, breeding and rearing of animals in captivity.

• Ability to act on your own initiative and to work out of typical hours, as required. • Good communication and cooperation skills
