Join a dedicated team in the rehabilitation and ongoing care of over 160 rescued Asiatic black and Malayan sun bears at Animals Asia’s Vietnam Bear Rescue Centre.

A highly motivated, experienced, and dedicated animal professional is sought, to join our Bear and Vet Team, located at the Vietnam Bear Rescue Centre, Tam Dao National Park, approximately 90 minutes from the capital Hanoi.

In this exciting role, the position holder will be responsible for overseeing teams of local bear care staff involved in the daily husbandry and management of rescued bears.

This position involves working closely with Bear Team Supervisors and liaising with the veterinary team to manage various daily operations. The Bear Manager will report directly to the Bear and Vet Team Director.


Responsibilities
§        Co-coordinating various daily operations:
o        Animal care and management;
o        Maintenance and adjustment of existing enrichment programs;
o        Ordering stock as required;
o        Maintaining bear behavior records & databases.
§        As needed, overseeing the quarantine of newly rescued bears.
§        As needed, participate in the hand-rearing and care of newly rescued, orphaned cubs.
§        As needed, manage the integration of bears into mixed sex, social groups.
§        Operant conditioning and formal bear training programmes for a variety of medical, behavioural and management requirements.
§        Report writing, including producing material used by the Communications Team for social media and the Animals Asia website.
§        Human resources:
o        Capacity building and training with the local bear care team;
o        Staff evaluations;
o        Ensuring morale is maintained within bear care staff;
o        Identifying and addressing HR issues with the Bear & Vet Team Director as they arise.

Requirements
§        University degree in zoology, biology, conservation, animal welfare, animal behaviour or related field.
§        Three to five years work experience in a captive wild animal facility or similar working environment.
§        Computer literacy, including Excel.
§        Strong management skills and the ability to work in a team or independently
§        Fluent in English.
§        A good sense of humor, excellent communication skills, and the ability to live and work closely with the rest of the team comprising both western and local staff in a rural area of Northern Vietnam.
§        Patience and willingness to work within a different culture are essential.
§        Suitable candidates must be able to commit for a minimum of 2 years.

Appointment is paid, full-time, five (5) days a week with some weekend work applicable.

About the Role
The responsibilities of the Aquarist will be varied, challenging, but extremely rewarding. Responsible for the freshwater displays, a hands-on approach is required to ensure you achieve the highest standard of animal care, husbandry and presentation of exhibits.
This is full time post working 5 days over 7 and includes regular weekends and bank holidays.

About You
Already an experienced Aquarist with knowledge of both marine and freshwater systems you will have infectious enthusiasm for creating stunning and innovative displays and keen to share knowledge with your team and guests.
A degree or equivalent in a relevant biological science is advantageous, as is previous relevant experience in the visitor attraction industry. Practical experience of working with freshwater fish and knowledge of aquarium life support systems are essential.
The successful candidate will be expected to be very personable and able to communicate well with our guests, including delivering public talks.

Paradise Wildlife Park currently has a vacancy for an experienced animal keeper to join our animal park team with the opportunity of working with a wide range of taxa.
Our zookeepers are involved in a full range of husbandry duties including general enclosure cleaning, food provisions, husbandry training, and enrichment programmes across the 6 sections of the zoo (Paddocks, Small Mammals, Birds, Primates, Reptiles & Large Carnivores). The successful applicant must have at least two years of experience working within a zoo environment. The position also has scope for the keeper to go on to focus on certain species as time progresses.

The successful applicant will be actively involved in the mixed taxa shows on the zoo, where they will be trained in positive reinforcement techniques for species to demonstrate natural behaviours in public displays. The keeper will also be delivering interactive animal experiences across multiple sections of the zoo.

Paradise Wildlife Park also has a team of volunteers and interns you will be tasked with working alongside and supervising. The applicant must be very personable and able to communicate well with visitors and staff. The successful applicant will be enthusiastic and a good team player.

Job Details:
· Full time; Permanent position
· Reports to; Section Leaders & Head keeper
· Hours; Summer 8am-6pm, Winter 8am – 5pm. Includes weekend and bank holiday work on a flexible rotated basis. Flexibility is necessary in this post

Primary Duties and Responsibilities include:
· Carrying out and enforcing high standards of welfare and animal husbandry routines e.g. food prep, feeding, cleaning, enrichment provision etc. set by Section Leaders on sections allocated to
· Undertake and record animal observations
· Deliver high standards of visitor interaction in the form of; keeper talks, animal shows, encounters, experiences, tours and education events
· Overseeing work experience, volunteers and interns
· Liaise and assist in general duties and requirements as directed by senior
management
· Other duties to support effective and efficient site maintenance may include: Fire Marshall, First Aider, Company vehicle driver, including tractor trailer, Litter picking/rubbish removal/sweeping and general cleaning in order to maintain high standards (nb - full training will be a given prior to the post holder being required to undertake new tasks)

Requirements:
· An animal science related qualification
· 2 years full-time experience in a zoological collection
· Excellent communication skills
· Adaptable for a flexible rota
· Physically fit for the demands of this role
· Free flight bird experience preferable
· Full UK driving licence
