Bristol Zoological
Society has a position for a Qualified Keeper on its mammal section at the
Bristol Zoo Gardens site in Clifton, Bristol.
This is a practical position assisting in all aspects of management and
husbandry of the Zoo’s mammal collection. You will need to have a good level of
physical fitness.
The successful
applicant will be an experienced zoo mammal keeper with a relevant degree or
equivalent professional qualification together with experience of working
full-time within a recognised animal collection, ideally with primates. Ape
experience would be an advantage. A positive outlook, the ability to work
within a team and having a good knowledge of the conservation and educational
roles of zoos is also required. We are looking for excellent communication
skills, written and oral, as well as knowledge of animal training. You will be
expected to engage with our guests and deliver regular talks.
This position is
permanent, working 80 hours per fortnight as part of the departmental 14 day
rota, which includes weekends and bank holidays. It may also include occasional
evening work.
