5 days per week
Working at least one weekend day per week

Green Dragon Rare Breeds Farm & Eco Centre is an open farm and visitor attraction. We pride ourselves on sustainability and promoting a Green approach to living. We are self-sustaining and Eco with our energy production, water management, sewerage management, and our ‘farm to folk’ philosophy.

We have only been fully operational for just over 2 years and we already have a loyal following of supporters and visitors. We are growing fast and are looking for forward thinking, motivated, creative and hardworking individuals to help us achieve our mission.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone to join our Livestock team at a time when our livestock department is developing. We have already expanded our pets corner to include exotic pets, we already have our first owls and 2018 will bring the construction of our new Wildlife zone and owl sanctuary.

It's a fantastic opportunity to gain some valuable career and industry experience.
We are looking for someone with a a great work ethic and passion for nature, animals and farming, who likes working outside and as part of a team.
We ask that the successful candidate has their own transport to and from work, be punctual and flexible with working hours.

Responsible to: Livestock Supervisor & General Manager
  • You will have relevant experience within the animal care industry
  • You will have worked practically with agricultural livestock.
  • Experience with Pet animals including ectotherms and exotic mammals is desirable but not essential.
  • You will Work on the Farm, cleaning and feeding the animals.
  • You will work with the livestock team to provide daily enrichment for the animals.
  • You will be a good public speaker and enjoy engaging with the visitors through delivering animal encounter sessions and talks.
  • Additional tasks as directed by your line Manager.

Salary: £26,093 - £29,472 inclusive of London Weighting and Weekend Enhancement (Commensurate on experience)

Role Profile:
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Experienced Trainer/Presenter on the Animal Activities section at ZSL London Zoo. The Animal Activities section is responsible for the delivery of a number of live animal displays as well as the running of the visitor focused Animal Adventure exhibit.

This position will mainly involve supporting the Team Leader and Lead keeper in the daily running and delivery of the educational live animal displays. In addition to this the candidate will be expected to help train a variety of animals for the displays, devise new routines and assist with script writing.

 

The successful candidate will also be expected to:
  • Observe the behaviour, health and security of animals and report any problems to the Team Leader or manager including defects or repairs required to enclosures and relevant departments required to support work needed.
  • Assist with the preparation of approved diets and carrying out the correct feeding procedures.
  • Adhere to the highest industry standards of zoo husbandry and welfare.
The successful candidate will:
  • Have extensive presenting experience with live Animal demonstrations.
  • Have a thorough knowledge of training techniques.
  • Have extensive practical experience of training both Birds and Mammals.
  • Have strong attention to detail and the ability to clearly convey instruction.
  • Be able to use Microsoft software including Outlook, Excel and Word.
  • Have a qualification in a relevant field at university level and/or diploma in the DZMAA Keeper’s course or equivalent work experience.
  • Be reliable and have good time-keeping and attendance record and able to demonstrate leadership and professionalism.
  • Be a positive influence on the section.
  • Work with energy and enthusiasm.

GENERAL SUMMARY
Manage a large and varied animal collection, the associated facilities, staff and budgets, and department breeding and conservation programs.  The curator is charged with overall direction of the department while the zoological manager is charged with its day-to-day implementation.  As a member of the Senior Animal Care Staff, develop and implement animal department programs, policies and procedures and participate in facilities design, education program development, donor cultivation and research.

TEMPORARY AQUARIUM KEEPER



TEMPORARY AQUARIUM KEEPER

Toledo Zoo

The position requires up to 40 hours per week and will require working some weekends and holidays through the remainder of 2017. Under the direction of the aquarium keepers and curator, keeper will prepare appropriate animal diets, cleans, sweep, dust work areas and some public areas adjacent to exhibits. Will also prepare plankton bottles and assist with unloading salt and preparing seawater. May assist keepers with live food culture maintenance, exhibit cleaning and water quality data collection, animal feeding and other related duties as required.
Requires the ability to read and process verbal and written instructions and communication and to tolerate the use of cleaning chemicals and tolerate dust during housekeeping. Will work in humid and warm environments and may lift bags that can weigh up to 50 pounds.
Preference will be given to current marine biology university students as well as those with degrees in the field. Scuba certification with a minimum of 10 hours of open water dive time preferred.

Candidate who fills this position will be a temporary employee through the remainder of 2017.
