The Lakes Aquarium
is seeking an enthusiastic and pro-active Curator to join the team.
Firmly established
as one of the Lake District’s most popular visitor attractions, The Lakes
Aquarium is home to a diverse range of creatures - from catfish and otters, to
starfish and ducks!
Leading a small
team, the Curator is responsible for the development, production and
maintenance of all displays, providing the highest standards of animal welfare
and husbandry at all times. This includes ensuring all zoo licence regulations
and BIAZA guidelines are adhered to and that related administration duties are
fulfilled.
The role also
includes responsibility for supervising the development and implementation of
the attraction’s educational offering - ensuring that all visitors receive an
inspiring, informative and fun experience.
The Curator is also
responsible for overseeing general site maintenance.
The ideal candidate
will have several years' experience of working with a wide variety of creatures
and systems as well as staff supervision. A proven track record in public
aquaria is desirable along with an organised, structured approach and can-do
outlook. Relevant qualifications and project management experience are an
advantage.
A salary of £23,000
is offered, along with a 15% performance related bonus, company pension scheme
and life assurance.
The position
includes on-call responsibilities on a rota basis as well as weekend and bank
holiday working.
