Colchester Zoo

Colchester zoo has a vacancy for a highly motivated and experienced animal keeper to join the zoos ‘Rainforest Section’. This particular section houses many of the zoos smaller New World primates but also tamandua, sloth and Philippine rufus hornbill.

This is a full time position working 40 hours per week 5 days out of 7 on a rotational basis.

The ideal candidate will have worked for a minimum of two years in a recognised zoological institution and have experience of working with primates and or small mammals.

 It is expected that you will have been awarded the DMZAA or an equivalent qualification. However, due consideration will be given to the individuals own level of zoological experience and academic success. You should have a clean full UK drivers licence.

 Good communication skills, both written and oral are necessary for this position and you will be expected to engage with visitor experiences including the delivery of keeper talks.

The successful applicant will be responsible for but not limited to; cleaning and presentation of exhibits, feeding and general care and welfare of the individual animals and associated tasks. You will work as part of a team of experienced keepers but also work singularly as required whilst reporting to the Head of Section.
