Colchester Zoo is seeking an experienced and highly motivated individual with a background in animal training to join its dedicated team of staff. You will be working in a team of four and reporting directly to the line manager. The section is responsible for but not limited to the daily management of exhibits, animal husbandry and care and the presentation of public displays for our sealion and penguin exhibits. Having prior experience working with penguins and sealions and possessing a competent understanding of LSS is required for this position. It will be advantageous to the successful applicant to have proven staff supervisory experience.

The ideal applicant will have a proven record of working in a recognised zoological institution and have excellent communication and presentation skills. It is expected that you will have been awarded the DMZAA or equivalent. However, due consideration will be given to the applicants own level of academic achievement combined with zoological experience in the absence of an awarded of the aforementioned diploma.

This is a full time position working 40 hours per week and applicants are expected to work to a flexible rota as necessary to include weekends and public holidays.

Award winning Blackpool Zoo is looking to fill a key position within its Animal Department.

Experienced Large Mammal Keeper (Ref No- AD/MK/18)

Blackpool Zoo is looking for an experienced Large Mammal Keeper focusing on large carnivores to assist in the daily care and husbandry needs of the large variety of exotic and domestic mammals that it currently maintains on its Large Mammal Section, many of which are managed as part of captive breeding programmes including Amur Tiger, Iberian wolf, Giraffe, Blesbok, Hartmann’s Mountain Zebra, Lowland Tapir, Bongo, Giant Anteater and Aardvark. They will also help in developing and moving forward the section within the framework of the animal department's aims and objectives in a new and exciting period within Blackpool Zoo’s history.

You will need to be hard working, physically fit, enthusiastic and reliable. You should possess the Diploma in The Management of Zoo and Aquarium Animals (DMZAA) or an equivalent and have a minimum of three years Large Mammal keeping experience. Although experience with big cats is not essential, it would be desirable.

We offer a competitive salary of £18,694 per annum and the opportunity to further your career within the zoological world.

EXPERIENCED ANIMAL KEEPER – SHALDON WILDLIFE TRUST, DEVON

Shaldon Wildlife Trust is a small zoo on the Devon coast, set in an acre of woodland.  We are the smallest member of BIAZA and EAZA. Despite this, we are active members of the zoo community and support conservation projects all over the word. Over the years we have gained a great deal of expertise in the breeding of many species, particularly small primates, and are regarded highly in this field.

We are going through an exciting period of change as the zoo develops and so are looking for a dynamic, knowledgeable individual to become a key member of our team. This role will provide the right candidate with the opportunity to develop and grow in a small team.

We currently have a vacancy for an experienced animal Keeper.  This is a key role which will involve working on section, covering all areas of animal husbandry including feeding, cleaning, training and record keeping; as well as interacting with the zoo visitors with regular keeper talks and delivering our popular encounters and experiences.  The role of animal Keeper will also include coaching our volunteers and work experience placements so interpersonal skills and the ability to motivate others will be essential. We are seeking an enthusiastic, high performing individual with an interest in zoo animal management, education and conservation. You must be a good team worker with a positive outlook and have excellent communication skills and be able to organise and prioritise tasks. A good understanding of risk assessments is required to ensure all members of staff are fully aware of safety and management procedures.  
A minimum of 2 years zoo keeping experience, and an animal-related qualification, such as DZMAA would be advantageous. 

 - The role is full time. Salary is paid monthly.  We provide uniform and 28 days holiday per annum.

Woodside Wildlife Park is a growing, hand’s on, friendly, family run small zoo, situated near Langworth, Lincoln. We have a wide range of animals from tropical butterflies to tigers and crocodiles to wolves.

The successful candidate will work in all area’s and all departments.

We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our team.

The position starts immediately and is full time, permanent.

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Deliver talks and presentations to school groups and at public shows.
  • Feed, clean out and provide enrichment for animals.
  • Maintain accurate records and identify areas for improvement.        

   
Candidate:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Must be a team player with the ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels.
  • A minimum of two years previous experience of working with a range of relevant       species is desired.
  • A relevant animal qualification is desired.

Pay will be commensurate with age and experience.

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Hoofstock Keeper.  In this role you will work within the Hoofstock Team and take an active role in the day to day running of our collection. This will include delivering the highest standards of animal husbandry required by our large variety of animals including zebra, giraffe and white rhino. You will be part of the team creating the most stimulating environment possible – not just for our guests, but for the animals too - and since we’re big on conservation, education and research, you’ll have a big part to play in that too. You will also be keen to support all areas within our Zoo, which will in turn benefit your own personal development. You will ensure the Health & Safety of yourself, colleagues and our guests at all times as well as develop a personal training programme in conjunction with your Head of Section.

We are looking for the following skills and experience;
•        Our ideal candidate will have completed an animal-based qualification, with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience working in a Zoo environment or equivalent.
•        You will be a clear and confident speaker, able to engage with the public, delivering fun and educational presentations and more importantly an alert listener, willing to learn and develop.
•        You will have passion and excitement for your chosen field, with a keen drive to develop your career as an animal keeper.
