The Department of Animal Welfare & Conservation is currently recruiting for a dedicated, reliable, confident team member. This position is offered on a permanent, full time basis.

Working as part of the successful Animal & Welfare Department you will be responsible for maintaining a safe environment for both yourself and the public by adhering to associated risk assessments and protocols without exception.

Working as part of the demonstrations team, you will be expected to deliver high quality educational and entertaining displays of natural behaviours. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to work with and train an exciting collection of birds, reptiles and mammals, including, but not exclusively; raptors, psittacines and Californian sea lions; and be a part of continually developing and improving the daily displays.

The zoo animal management qualification (DMZAA) is desirable but not essential for this position, however; the successful candidate would be expected to work towards achieving this qualification.

The successful applicant will need to be a highly motivated, hard working individual who has a good understanding of animal behaviour and previous experience training and working with a variety of species. The ability to take part in public presentations is essential as well as exceptional animal husbandry skills, high standards of animal care and excellent communication skills. Previous experience with the species we hold is preferable however those candidates’ with comparable experience will be considered.

Preference will be given to applicants that have worked and/or volunteered within the following fields:  Zoo’s, Safari Park’s, Farming/Agriculture & Equestrian.

SENIOR PRIMATE KEEPER

An opportunity has arisen for a Senior Primate Keeper to join the team at Newquay Zoo.  The post requires a hardworking, dedicated, enthusiastic and reliable individual to oversee and contribute to the day to day running of this varied section.

The ideal candidate will possess the aptitude to implement, update and improve the current management techniques for nutrition and enrichment and behavioural training of this taxa.  In addition, they will assist in the future development of the section and be involved with in house staff training. 

The section currently houses 12 species of primates consisting of 55 individuals including Callitrichids, Prosimians and Old and New World Primates.

A minimum of 4 years experience is required, and preferably within a BIAZA/EAZA recognised institution.  The ideal candidate will have also attained the Diploma in the Management of Zoo and Aquarium Animals (DMZAA).

Overview:
West Midland Safari Park currently has a permanent vacancy available for an Animal Keeper on the Carnivore Section. This is an exciting opportunity, where we are looking for applicants who can demonstrate the ability and knowledge to work with our extensive range of Carnivore species in a Safari Park setting. The position involves husbandry tasks, such as feeding, cleaning, health monitoring, animal training and enclosure maintenance delivered to a high standard. It includes monitoring of our guests and operating the carnivore section watchtowers.

The role requires someone who is confident, motivated and enthusiastic about wildlife conservation and has excellent communication skills. The successful applicant will require good wildlife knowledge and have an animal related qualification. We are looking for someone with previous experience in a zoological collection, although full training will be given. It is a physically demanding but very rewarding role Due to driving company vehicles, we are looking for applicants who have full, valid drivers licenses. Weekend, bank holiday working and flexibility in working hours is essential to this role. Some evening work will be required during special events throughout the year

Presentations Manager

Full time 40 hours per week,
Salary £24,480 per annum

A vacancy has arisen for a Presentations Manager to join Bristol Zoo’s Presentations Team. This post-holder manages the livestock and staff involved with animal training and demonstrations as well as experiences that involve the Zoo’s guests.
The successful applicant will have considerable experience in animal husbandry, animal training and presentations skills, as well as proven leadership ability.  The Presentations Section develops and delivers the animal demonstrations, daily husbandry and training of the Section’s animals, supporting guest experiences such as Keeper for the Day and advising the other animal sections on husbandry training.  Experience with seal husbandry would be a great advantage.

In addition, s/he will be expected to be a part of the senior animal department team and take up duty animal manager responsibilities, when required.

This is a full time position working on average 40 hours per week as part of the section rota which will include weekends and bank holidays.
