Twycross Zoo, based in Leicestershire, is a registered charity and is home to over 1000 animals from more than 200 different species. We are proud of the work we do in conservation and education and take part in many captive breeding programmes for endangered animals. About three quarters of the animals housed at Twycross are classed as endangered species.

We need an experienced keeper to join our Hooves and Carnivores section caring for babirusa, capybara, mara, alpaca, vicuna, pudu, camel, giraffe and others. It is ideal if you have already achieved an animal-related qualification, but it is more important to have “hands on” experience of caring for hoofstock. We are not looking for a trainee keeper at this point.

Pay ranges from £15,693 pa for a Grade 2 Keeper up to £17,300 pa for a Senior Keeper. Grade is determined by the job holder’s level of competence, expertise and knowledge, not length of service. The shift pattern is 6 days on and 2 off and we offer 31 days holiday, uniform, 5% pension contribution and the possibility of on-site accommodation.

The Royal Zoological Society of Scotland (RZSS), a charity founded in 1909, owns and manages Edinburgh Zoo and the Highland Wildlife Park with an annual visitation of around 750,000. The Society is involved in conservation, education and research in Scotland and abroad.

The Society's outreach education work is expanding and a vacancy has arisen for another Outreach Education Officer working within the Animal, Conservation & Education team. This role is to enable delivery of the Society's outreach learning programmes across Scotland and to be part of the Society's Education team communicating to a variety of audiences. This role requires good communication skills and ability to relate to different age and ability groups.

The successful candidate will need to work in close collaboration with others and the post requires flexible working and travel – including some weekends, and time away from home, and is a full time position, 37.5 hours per week.
The successful candidate will preferably have a degree, experience of education delivery/teaching, and/or giving presentations/public speaking, working with diverse age groups and/or working in a visitor attraction, and have a good level of animal / environmental knowledge and excellent customer care.
This role will involve driving and so a current clean driving licence is required.
Salary for this post will be in the region of £15k - £17k p.a. depending on experience.

The Veterinary Doctor is required to oversee the development of the veterinary care programme at the Wildlife Sanctuary and to ensure that the welfare of the animals remains highest priority. The veterinary doctor will work closely with the managers, veterinary advisors, animal keepers and veterinary students. The Veterinary doctor is aware of the role that Munda Wanga plays in environmental education in Zambia, in animal welfare and husbandry education and in animal conservation in Zambia.
Overall Aims of doctor

1. Day to day running of the Veterinary Clinic.
2. Prepare veterinary protocol manuals for all animals in quarantine, ready for release or those that are at the Munda Wanga for long term care.
3. Training of all animal keepers and a veterinary students from University of Zambia.
4. Oversee diet and feeding regimes for all animals at Munda Wanga.
5. Develop and implement the protocol for all new arrivals, injuries, vaccinations, bottle feeding and other issues that arise.
6. Assist with maintaining animal record database in good standing according to PAZAAB and ISIS standards.
7. Have input into the release of animals back to the wild with regards veterinary procedures.
8. Assist management with improving the management systems at Munda Wanga and ensure that protocols and systems are implemented and targets are achieved.

General Operations
The Veterinary Doctor shall ensure that;
• All the animals receive the care and attention they require.
• That all animal records be appropriately maintained.
• The animal section of the Munda Wanga runs as per the Munda Wanga’s veterinary protocols (once fully developed).
• All new arrivals are vaccinated and health screened.
• Maintain all animal records, ensuring that all new arrivals receive ‘record sheets’ and that such sheets remain regularly updated. According to PAZAAB and ISIS regulations.
• All the Munda Wanga’s animals are inspected daily alongside animal keepers.
• The daily feeding and cleaning operations alongside animal keepers are overseen.
• All sick and injured animals receive the required medication.
• All veterinary testing of the Munda Wanga’s animals, e.g. stool and blood are taken when required.
• That post mortems are carried out when required to identify causes of death
• All animals in long term care are routinely tested and vaccinated as per Munda Wanga veterinary protocol.
• Contribute to the ongoing development of the Munda Wanga’s animal welfare protocols, to ensure that the Munda Wanga maintains a high standard of animal welfare practice.

Animal Keepers
The Veterinary Doctor shall ensure:
• All hand-reared orphans that may arrive at the Munda Wanga are well looked after with regards both their physical and mental health.
• Daily records are professionally maintained for any orphan with regards their feeding, behaviour and weight.
• All animal keepers are trained to do medical checks every morning during their morning round and that they report to the head keeper and veterinary doctor if anything is wrong.

Veterinary Clinic
The Veterinary Doctor shall ensure that:
• The veterinary clinic is operational and can cater for basic operations.
• Relations with the University Vet School are maintained and that the students coming for practical training are supervised.

Reporting
The Veterinary Manager shall ensure:
• That any serious injuries or illnesses to any animal be reported to management immediately, allowing for adequate and quick follow up.
• All veterinary care carried out must be suitably recorded for future use.
• That all records and reports are well catalogued and that any monthly reporting to Management is achieved, in a timely manner. That an easy to use database be established to allow easy access to veterinary records.

Dolphin Explorer (DE) is offering an opportunity for education and experience for tomorrow's workforce. DE has several internship opportunities available to those interested in pursuing career in Animal Care and Animal Training.

General Statement of duties: The animal care intern is responsible for assisting the DE staff in the care and feeding of de DE animals including the cleaning and maintenance of land and water exhibits. Also the opportunity of learn a basics steps of the animal training.

Description: Our non paid internship is designed to assist those passionate and interested in entering the career of animal training, the opportunity to gain valuable hands on experience. Interns under close supervision and guidance will participate in food preparation and all aspects of general husbandry care of our collection of bottlenose dolphins. This includes general cleaning and maintenance of equipment and facilities that are necessary to conduct dolphin interactive programs with the general public. Interns will learn how to brief the guest and before and guide them during the interactive programs (with dolphins, sea lions, sharks and rays).

Responsibilities:
Assist the trainers in the general daily care of the animals in the assigned exhibit and holding areas
. Maintain exhibits and holding areas in a clean and presentable condition at all times
.Interns will assist in the daily cleaning and upkeep of food preparation areas, assist in the daily preparation of diets and proper handling of fish, and vitamins.
Physical abilities include lifting up to 50 pounds blocks of frozen fish
. Working conditions are mostly outdoors in predominately strong sun , high heat and humidity
.Intern must be able to follow oral and written instructions in English (Spanish is a plus as the training staff speaks Spanish and English)
.May be asked to complete season's long project as assigned by the Senior Trainer and\ or the Director of Animal programs
.Responsible for other duties as assigned by the Senior Trainer and \ or the Director of animal programs
. Must have strong communication skills as speaking to the general public is required.

Reporting : The animal care intern reports directly to the Senior trainer and Supervisor .

Requires : A high school diploma or GED certificate
. Prefer candidates that are pursuing a degree in a zoological related field
.Must be able to work weekends, holidays and evenings as assigned
. Scuba diving certification is preferred
. Must have proof of a valid international medical insurance for the full internship period.

THE INTERNSHIP IS UNPAID AND NO HOUSING IS PROVIDED.

Interns are not paid and are responsible for their own housing and transportation while here. 2009 winter application must be received no later than October 31st.

Münster Zoo is seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Deputy Project Manager for the Angkor Centre for Conservation of Biodiversity (ACCB) in Cambodia (ideally a vet, zoologist or veterinary technician with relevant experience in project management).


Background:

The ACCB, located on 25 hectares of land at the historical site of Kbal Spean in the Phnom Kulen National Park, 40 km north of Siem Reap and the temples of Angkor, is the first Nature Conservation Centre in Cambodia. Its aim is to contribute to the preservation of wildlife and biodiversity, mainly in the northwest of the country. A rescue and breeding facility for threatened wildlife and an environmental education programme aimed at the local population as well as international tourists are the heart of the ACCB.


Münster Zoo and ZGAP started the project in 2001. A respective "Memorandum of Agreement" on the establishment of the nature conservation centre was signed with the Cambodian government in May 2002, and the corner stone was laid in April 2003. At the beginning of 2004, the first areas of the centre were put into operation.

The main goals of the ACCB are:


- Rescue and rehabilitation of native Cambodian wildlife.
- Conservation breeding (and in the longer term re-introduction / re-stocking) of selected globally threatened species.
- Environmental education and capacity building to promote the sustainable use of natural resources, and development of awareness programmes for specific target groups (communities, students, tourists).
- In situ wildlife conservation and research.

Duties and responsibilities:

Working with the Project Manager, the Deputy Project Manager will be responsible for the maintenance and further development of the ACCB and its different project components.

Main duties and responsibilities include:


- Day to day co-management of the project and supervision of different components (including staff and volunteers), in particular ACCB’s environmental education and sustainable tourism programme.
- Administration, accounting, and reporting to given deadlines.
- Implementation of management, administrative and operational systems, development of infrastructure, appropriate staff training and cooperation with Cambodian authorities and local, national and international NGOs.
- Support of fundraising activities and development of project proposals.
- Active involvement in animal care as required.


Requirements and skills:


- University degree (biology, ecology, veterinary medicine, natural resource management or related field).
- Practical experience in project planning and office management, administration, budgeting, reporting, accounting and fundraising.
- Good organisational skills, reliability and ability to multi-task.
- Ability to work independently, but in close co-operation with the Project Manager on site and the project executing organisations in Germany.
- Excellent interpersonal and diplomatic communication skills, and experience in staff management and development.
- Very good command of English (oral and written) and good writing skills.
- Ability to cope with simple living conditions in a rural and isolated area.
- Physically fit and ability to live in a hot and humid climate.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Practical skills.
- Previous experience in international conservation work, ideally involving government departments, and especially involving environmental education and sustainable tourism.
- Work experience in tropical developing countries, especially in Southeast-Asia.


Conditions/ remuneration:


- Basic remuneration is 1000 USD per month.
- High-quality, free, shared accommodation on site.
- 6 weeks of leave per year in agreement with the Project Manager.
- Air travel from home base to project site at start and end of contract.
- One international home flight is provided once a year.
- Business travel expenses will be covered.
- Reasonable personal use of an office vehicle.


An initial contract of one year will be offered, subject to a three-month probation period. However, preference will be given to persons indicating that they are willing to commit to a longer period. The contract will be offered on a compensatory volunteer basis, not as permanent staff of Münster Zoo. Therefore, no social insurance contributions will be paid.


Start:
As soon as possible. The current holder of the position will stay on site until the beginning of December; a period of vocational adjustment would be desirable.

The position of Zoological Curator is now available for the right applicant. This position offers huge scope and potential to lead the zoological department into the next exciting phase in The Living Rainforest’s future, as we develop new ways to guide, teach, and motivate people to protect the world’s threatened wildlife and ecosystems and promote more sustainable living.


Applicant qualities:
You will be active within the zoo community and able to give the department direction through collection planning, commitment to conservation programs and initiating projects. You will be expected to lead and work as part of a team – the role dictates that a ‘hands on’ approach will be required.

The collection at The Living Rainforest is diverse and therefore the applicant should have experience of several taxa. Working knowledge of ‘tropical’ replicated environments would be an advantage. With over three years experience at senior keeper level, a working knowledge of ARKS and a proven track record in your field, you will be able to develop the department including team members. You will also be educated to degree level or above in an appropriate subject, with a thorough understanding of all legislation surrounding zoological collections such as zoo licensing.

This position is a long term position for someone who is dedicated. The duties required are not based around the Tigers and will not include tiger handling, which means this position will be strictly ‘hands off’.

ZooParc de Beauval is one of the leading and biggest zoological parks in France with an involvement in EAZA activities and in situ conservation. Concerning animal management, the zoo is divided into seven departments. Each one is led by a head keeper. There are 2 full time vets to whom the head keepers and keepers report.

We wish to recruit an experienced and motivated Gorilla Keeper, to take care of our breeding group of Gorillas and some Cebids, Callitrichids and Macaques.

Ideal candidates will have:
- experience working with Great Apes, more specifically with Gorillas,
- good physical condition,
- good communication skills,
- the ability to speak and understand, or a willingness to learn French language.

The salary is based on the “Convention Collective # 3613” (Name: parcs et jardins zoologiques privés, ouverts au public). The minimum income is 8,82 € per hour (gross salary) and depends on the number of years of experience. For information the minimum French salary is about 1.050,00 € (disposable income) a month on a normal working time of 35 hours a week.
