Job Summary:

Worldwide Zoo Consultants is a global leader in the creation, development, and management of a wide variety of specialized animal facilities and projects. From Zoological Parks, Public Aquariums and Animal Sanctuaries, to living museums and immersive animal-based education centers.

 

Worldwide Zoo Consultants is continuing to expand their team and looking to recruit a talented Animal Keeper for an exciting facility in Abu Dhabi. You will be responsible for the day-to-day husbandry operations at the ESBP. Primary responsibilities include the care and wellbeing of reptiles, dogs and small mammals, maintenance of all the habitats, and a positive, hardworking approach within the Animal Keeper Department.

Duties/Responsibilities:

 

·      Undertake daily operations within the Animal Keeper Department to ensure highest level of safety, courtesy, education, efficiency and operational readiness at all times.

·      Maintain positive representation to professional agencies, institutions, and various committees.

·      Compliance with health and safety standards in accordance with local municipality rules and regulations.

·      Provide excellent animal care and ensure habitats meet compliance of facility specific policies and procedures.

·      Ensure the correct diets and quantities are fed to the animals.

·      Perform daily animal husbandry tasks, health checks, animal behaviour observation and training.

·      Maintain strict health & safety compliance.

·      Ensure all animals are visually checked and numbers recorded daily.

·      Maintain BOH areas carefully, ensuring they are clean, rubbish cleared, and equipment stored in correct place.

·      Once locked away ensure exhibits are clear of any rubbish and fencing is checked.

·      Follow the set lock up procedure (for carnivores – buddy system).

·      Ensure animals always have fresh water.

·      Ensure that animals always have access to shelter.

·      Perform duties to reduce loss/waste, control costs and accurately communicate expenses.

·      Assist in the maintenance and implementation of new habitats and educational opportunities.

·      Maintain up-to-date records on animal health, system maintenance, system checks and stock reports.

·      Monitor and identify animal health concerns.

·      Communicate to Animal Keeper Manager and Veterinary staff about any animal health concerns to develop and implement a care or treatment plan.

·      Compliance of all policy and procedure documents.

·      Assist in emergency situations to minimize damage, loss or injury to team members, animals or company property.

·      Other duties as assigned.

 

Required Skills/Abilities: 

·      3 years + animal husbandry, zoo experience required.

·      Good verbal and written communication skills.

·      Strong listening, presentation, and decision-making skills.

·      Committed to the care and welfare of animals.

·      Must be passionate about your job.

·      Good attendance.

·      Good work record.

·      Good timekeeping.

 

Working Conditions: 

·      While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to reach with hands and arms, stand, walk, and use hands to finger, handle, feel, and operate objects, tools or controls, frequently required to lift and/or move up to.

 Bird & Animal Training Manager

Job Summary:

The Bird & Animal Training Manager is an integral member of the management team who works closely with the Managing Director and Veterinarian to manage all aspects of animal behavior management, care and husbandry.  Demonstrate excellent representation of the Company at all times through a positive, can-do attitude and teamwork focused work ethic. 

Duties/Responsibilities:

·      Promote the mission of Worldwide Zoo Group as directed by the Managing Director.

·      Build strong relationships with all clients and provide world-class customer service to all guests.

·      Oversee all aspects of personnel management for the facility including but not limited to training current/new employees, planning, scheduling, assigning and directing work, appraising performances and preparing annual performance evaluations, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complains, and resolving issues.

·      Responsible for all additional aspects of daily animal care and maintenance including environmental enrichment, diet preparation, feeding, behaviour observation, data base records entry, monitoring animal health, animal handling for medical care, and other related duties as assigned. 

·      Clean and maintain the entire facility, including animal exhibits, which may at times require the use of specialist equipment

·      Oversee all aspects of animal behavior management, care and husbandry for the facility including staff, exhibit and facility management and supervision of training of animals to ensure they adhere to the highest standards

·      Maintain animal record logs relating to behavioral and medical conditions of the animals as well as recording all conditioning; supervise registrar activities, including daily reports, treatment logs, and other activity records.

·      Develop improved practices in feeding, housing, sanitation, and parasite and disease control.

·      Development of Standard Operating Procedures and Protocols in accordance to company policies.

·      Maintain an adequate inventory of commissary supplies for the facility.

·      Ensure the exhibits and animals inhabiting them are in good health.

·      Work closely with the Managing Director to develop and employ sound medical programs for the animal collection, including diet formulation, preventative medicine, testing, quarantine, and health care.

·      Workplace will be dependent upon the company’s projects and some travel outside of the UAE may be required.

·      Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

 

Required Skills/Abilities: 

·      Possess good verbal and written communication skills within the English language and must be able to conduct themselves in a professional, positive manner with co-workers and guests.

·      Must have a strong attention to detail and be highly professional, proactive, self-motivated, independent, a problem solver and be able to work with intermittent guidance.

·      Computer literate (MS Office) proficiency with computers and current software applications.

·      High school or college level course work desirable with good academic science background.

·      Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in marine animal husbandry, management, and training with emphasis on program development and guest interactions.

·      Practical experience in managing an animal collection and animal care staff are essential.

·      Demonstrated knowledge of regulatory requirements relating to the care and keeping of animals in captivity as well as the ability to translate/interpret laws, rules, regulations and practices to convey an appropriate course of action.

·      Good verbal and written communication skills.

·      Strong listening, presentation, and decision-making skills.

Experienced Animal Keeper - Primate Section

Port Lympne works in conjunction with The Aspinall Foundation, a charity committed to the conservation of rare and endangered animals through breeding and reintroduction programmes. This position offers a fantastic opportunity to work with a wide range of species and contribute to in-situ conservation programmes. Our continued involvement in Java means that there is a possibility to become involved in the reintroduction of Javan gibbons and langurs in Java.

 

The Role:

 

Port Lympne Hotel & Reserve, based in Kent, is seeking a passionate, experienced, hardworking and motivated animal keeper to work with a team of enthusiastic keepers on our primate section. The successful applicant will be expected to undertake all duties on the section from general husbandry including cleaning and feeding as well as enclosure maintenance and record keeping.

 

Conservation education plays a big role in the park so there will be plenty of opportunities for talks and encounters with the public. We provide extensive staff training and will offer the opportunity to develop your professional skills and abilities.

 

The Person:

 

You must have experience working with primates, gained in a mainstream zoological collection and a full valid driving licence is essential. You will be a good communicator with the ability to impart knowledge to the section. You will need to be confident around all types of primates with a hands-on approach to the restraint and handling of animals where necessary. Knowledge of health and safety is essential. A working knowledge of basic Office software will be an advantage, as well as an understanding of ZIMS.

 

The position is full time, working 40 hours per week, worked five days out of seven and will include weekends and bank holidays. A flexible approach to working hours is essential in any animal job. All applicants must have right to work in the UK
