Assessor - Diploma in the
Management of Zoo and Aquarium Animals (DMZAA)
For the following
units:
Unit 1 – Roles of Zoos
& Aquariums
Unit 2 – Research
Unit 3 – Education
& Learning
Unit 4 – Conservation
& Collection Planning
Unit 5 – Enclosure
Management
Unit 6 – Principles of
Breeding
Unit 7 – Transfers,
Records & Health
Unit 8 – Nutrition
Unit 9 – Horticulture
Unit 10 – Ethics &
Welfare
£23.37 per hour
(including admin time and holiday pay)
You will assist the
organisation and delivery of the Diploma in the Management of Zoo and Aquarium
Animals (UK and International) and Volunteer Programme courses.
This will include the
following key duties:
·
Grading and providing
feedback for the units you are responsible for, within a 15 working day
turnaround timeframe.
·
Proving high standard
student feedback as directed by the college and the awarding body.
·
Using ‘Ledge’ - the
virtual learning environment – in order to access and grade student work, as
well accessing materials to support your role.
·
Communicating
effectively with the Curriculum Leader for Zoo Animal Studies regarding student
progress and grade tracking.
·
Communicating with
Regional Coordinators as needed, to support student progress and achievement.
·
Being responsive to
the Internal Verification team for DMZAA and the Volunteer Programme courses.
·
Attending a minimum of
one Assessor’s meetings a year to be involved in standardization activities and
to provide feedback to the college.
·
Ensuring unit study
guides are kept up to date and fit for purpose, as agreed by the college and
BIAZA working groups.
Requirements
The post holder will:
-
Have extensive
experience working directly in the zoo and/or aquarium environment.

Hold an appropriate
academic or professional qualification in a relevant subject at a minimum of
Level 3 but preferably at degree level.

Preferably have
experience of assessing on vocational programmes.

Hold, or being willing
to gain, relevant qualifications for assessing.
-
Be able to promote the
college values as well as those of this BIAZA led training provision.

Be self-motivated and
able to manage their time effectively.
The specific hours required in this
role depend on the student intake each year.
