The government of Sharjah, Environment and Protected Areas Authority (EPAA), United Arab Emirates has been developing the state of the art ‘Sharjah Safari’. Animal welfare and visitor engagement are a high priority for Sharjah Safari. A master Education Strategy is currently being developed. We are now looking for someone to assist in leading the training and development of our safari guides as a member of the Education Team.

 

This vacancy is open to applicants from UAE and internationally. The successful candidate will be expected to respect the local culture and that of other staff. We are an equal opportunities employer.

 

Job responsibilities

 

Assisting the training of the guides at Sharjah Safari and motivate and support their day to day operation.

 

Assist with Supervising the training and operation of the tour guides in game-vehicle driving (manual & automatic, jeep & truck), and animal identification within the Sharjah Safari Education Strategy. Supervise long-term training and development of local education staff

Represent EPAA at relevant national and international conferences Maintain contact with relevant international and national organisations Report to Head of Education

Requirements

5 years’ experience of Environmental education or training/teaching within a Zoological collection or in the field of Guide training or nature reserve/project management.

Accredited bachelor’s degree within fields of education, communications, zoology, biology, animal science, or a related field

Keen interest in animals, nature & environment.

Experience with training development and facilitating workshops

Full Driving licence (experience with game jeeps and trucks is desirable manual)

Good command of English, both writing and speaking. Proven management and leadership skills.

Proven ability to motivate a team.

Organised and capable of working and assisting the education department.


Desirable skills

Safari Guide / Nature interpretation / Bush training qualifications accredited Experience with training guides for game vehicles safari tours.

Other Languages will be an advantage (Arabic especially) Experience in working within a multicultural team.

Experience of formal classroom teaching Proven IT skills

 

Housing will be provided on the location in a communal compound with villas and apartments and a shared garden, barbeque area and swimming pool. Location is in a rural desert area family and pet friendly community of expats. Nearest shops are at 3 km to Al Dhaid or 45 kms to Sharjah or Dubai.

The position will be on a contract basis for 2 years, renewable. Salary: competitive, depending on experience. Comprehensive health insurance is included.
