Wir sind:

Der Anholter Bärenwald ist seit 1999 das Zuhause von vier Braunbären und sechs
Kragenbären. Von Beginn an kümmert sich der IBF e.V. mit seinen Mitgliedern, Paten,
Spendern und einem ehrenamtlich tätigen Vorstand um die Tiere, die mit Hilfe des
Deutschen Tierschutzbundes aus ganz Europa und meist aus schlechter Haltung in Anholt
artgerecht betreut werden. Das Gelände von 2,5 ha innerhalb des Biotopwildparks wurde
dem IBF von Fürst Carl-Philipp zu Salm-Salm zur Verfügung gestellt.

Wir erwarten:

 eine erfolgreich abgeschlossene Ausbildung in der Zootierpflege (zwingend),
 Berufserfahrung im Umgang und in der Pflege von Großwildtieren der
Gefahrenklasse 1 wäre wünschenswert,
 eigenverantwortliches und sicherheitsbewusstes Arbeiten,
 Teamfähigkeit,
 Zuverlässigkeit,
 Bereitschaft an Wochenenden und Feiertagen zu arbeiten, sowie auch außerhalb der
Dienstzeiten Probleme zu lösen (z.B. Sicherheitsalarme),
 Umsichtigkeit,
 Mitwirkung bei der Öffentlichkeitsarbeit des Vereins,
 PKW-Führerschein,
 Bereitschaft zur Teilnahme an Fortbildungen

 10 Bären in 10.000 qm und 15.000 qm großen Gehegen in einem Biotopwildpark,
 Unterstützung durch einen sachkundigen und kommunikativen Vorstand,

Animal Keeper Internships

on either Gorilla or Elephant Section


Situated near Canterbury in Kent, Howletts Wild Animal Park works in conjunction with The Aspinall Foundation; a charity committed to conservation and the reintroduction of captive bred species back into their natural habitats.

We have 2 exciting placements available for enthusiastic individuals wanting to gain valuable zoo animal keeping experience through working alongside keepers and benefiting from being involved in our ground breaking reintroduction projects. There is one placement available for the Gorilla Section and one for the Elephant Section, not a combination of the two.

We are looking for candidates who are willing to commit to a 6 month term and be willing and available to come in from 8am to 5pm, 5 days per week including weekends.

These placements are physically demanding positions so candidates must be physically fit, self motivated and have a genuine interest in conservation and zoo animal care. A valid driving licence is required and please be aware that unfortunately we are unable to offer accommodation.

The internships are unpaid and would benefit those already qualified in conservation or animal care and looking for further specialist zoo experience.

Port Lympne Wild Animal Park near Hythe, Kent is recruiting for an Animal Keeper to work on our Primate Sections in the park.

  The position requires an enthusiastic, self motivated person with experience of working within a mainstream wild animal collection. You must possess good all round animal husbandry skills and be enthusiastic in contributing to the enrichment of the primate species around the park.

This is a physically demanding position so candidates must be physically fit, self motivated and have a genuine interest in conservation and wildlife. A valid driving licence is essential and an animal related qualification or relevant experience would be advantageous.

This is a full time permanent position. Working 40 hours a week, five days out of seven 8.00am to 5.00pm possibly including weekends and bank holidays.

Twycross Zoo – East Midland Zoological Society (TZEMS), the World Primate Centre, holds a large variety of primates – every type of great ape (gorilla, chimpanzee, bonobo, orang-utan) plus a range of other primates including gibbons, lemurs, callitrichids, cebids and guenons to name a few!  We have impressive breeding records for many of these species and recent changes to husbandry practices has enabled more natural groupings and enclosure modifications. We have more to do!

We are going through an exciting period of change as this zoo develops and so are looking for dynamic, knowledgeable individuals to help lead the teams forward.

We have a vacancy for a keeper on the Great Apes section. The section manages all great ape taxa including chimpanzees, bonobos, orang utans and gorillas.  This is a key role which will involve working on the section, covering all areas of animal husbandry including feeding, cleaning, training and record keeping; as well as interacting with the zoo visitors.

We are seeking an enthusiastic, high performing individual with an interest in zoo animal management. You must be a good team worker with a positive outlook and have excellent communication skills.  A minimum of 2 years zoo keeping experience with great apes, and an animal-related qualification, such as the BIAZA approved ANCMZA or DZMAA, would be advantageous. 

The role is full time, including weekend duties on a rota system. Salary is paid monthly.  We provide uniform and 31 days holiday per annum.

You will have a minimum of 4 years’ experience as a keeper and demonstrate a substantial working knowledge of the natural history and management of key species.  You must be a good team worker with a positive outlook and excellent communication skills and be committed to continued professional development of yourself and other staff.  Supervisory experience as well as an animal-related qualification, such as the BIAZA approved ANCMZA or DZMAA, would be advantageous. 

The role is full time, including weekend duties on a rota system. Salary is paid monthly. We provide uniform and 31 days holiday.

About the role

Focusing on animal welfare & husbandry, and adventurers’ experience, you will lead, motivate & develop the Ungulates team of around 15 dedicated staff, to ensure they maintain the highest possible standards. As the team and department develop, you will constantly be seeking ways to maximise adventurer experience, whilst creating the most stimulating environment possible for our animals. Since we’re big on conservation, education and research, you’ll have a big part to play in that too. Taking an active role in the wider elements of the Zoo, you will support with the delivery of revenue-growing activities (e.g. Xtra Adventures) and suggest methods to encourage guests’ footfall and dwell time within Zoo areas of the Resort.

A typical day will see you promoting a safe and exciting environment for both your team and your animals. You will have a great attention to detail, and be able to prioritise your resources to maximise efficiency within the team. You will manage your time between hands on operational needs whilst keeping a close eye on recruitment, training, and continued development of your people

About you

Our ideal candidate will have solid experience of working with Ungulates and will ideally have a recognised qualification in captive animal management. You will have passion and excitement for your chosen field, with a keen drive to utilize advances in modern animal management. With previous experience of leading a team, you will have confidence in making both team & operational decisions. With an understanding of our family friendly resort brand, you will be an excellent communicator to engage our adventurers in our exciting collection across the park. You will have a good business acumen, with a desire to develop the department operationally & provide extra revenue to the business. You will be flexible, able to work full time 40 hours per week on a variable rota basis which will include
weekends and bank holidays.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Displays Curator to join the team at Sharkbait Reef by SEA LIFE at the Alton Towers Resort.

Sharkbait Reef by SEA LIFE is one of the busiest SEA LIFE Centres in the world, with visitor numbers in excess of 1 million per year.  Entry is included in the general admission Theme Park tickets, meaning the centre is busy throughout the day.  The ocean tank is our centrepeice and is home to tropical sharks and a myriad of other marine creatures. Sharkbait Reef is also used regularly by corporate clients as part of our host of unique conferencing/banqueting venues.

About the role:

In this role you will take responsibility for ensuring the continual development and innovation within Sharkbait Reef. Naturally you’ll be responsible for all maintenance plans of the life support systems and the cleanliness of our displays as well as the development of suitable diets and feeds for our creatures, ensuring we present world class displays. In addition you’ll drive conservation and education within the aquarium ensuring we meet and exceed our zoo licensing requirements.

About you:

You’ll be a dynamic, confident and a self motivated individual; who will be an integral part of the team aiming for a centre of excellence in marine management, conservation, preservation and education. 
Using your experience, gained by working in a similar environment, you will have a robust knowledge of aquatic animal husbandry; and have the ability to communicate to all employees and guests as well as deliver a highly immersive experience to all our visitors.  You’ll also have a comprehensive understanding of zoo licensing having been through a zoo licence in a previous role, project management experience and ideally be educated to degree level or equivalent in a relevant science discipline.
Due to the rural location of the Resort, we’re looking for a full driving license and access to a vehicle at all times of the day, and be willing to relocate to within 20 minutes drive from the Resort.

This person will work on a management team with two other Zoological Managers and report to the Animal Operations Manager Disney's Animal Kingdom.

Responsibilities        Primary responsibility is the day-to-day leadership and supervision of salaried frontline animal keepers and hourly keeper associates. Assist in all aspects of managing the animal collection at Disney's Animal Kingdom Savanna team. Assist with animal acquisition, husbandry programs, daily maintenance, animal enrichment, behavior modification, exhibit design, staff selection and development. Ensures the delivery of a quality Guest experience. Partner with operations, maintenance, research, veterinary, education and horticulture departments.

Basic Qualifications        
  • Nine years combined animal management and post-high school education with at least five years of animal management experience at an AZA accredited or equivalent facility.
  • Demonstrated experience in the management of specific animals.
  • Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated strong organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability.


Preferred Qualifications        
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Experience managing African ungulates and birds in mixed species habitats.
  • Experience with structured guest experience and special event coordination.


Preferred Education        
  • Associates or Bachelor’s degree or equivalent


Required Education        
  • High School degree or equivalent

Dublin Zoo holds the prestigious position of being ‘Ireland’s Number One Fee Paying Family Attraction’ having welcomed in excess of 1 million visitors in 2012.

We are currently seeking a zoo professional for the position of ‘Keeper’ within Dublin Zoo. The ideal candidate will be highly motivated and passionate about wildlife, with the skills required to communicate this passion and knowledge directly to our visitors. 

He/she must demonstrate an understanding and knowledge of modern zoo practices in animal husbandry, diets and environmental enrichment, as well as an understanding and knowledge of research, conservation and health and safety practices.

The successful candidate should have a minimum of 3 years experience working with animals in a Keeper role in a Zoological Garden and/or Wildlife Park and hold a Diploma in Animal Management from Sparsholt College, or equivalent, or be prepared to complete this course within a pre-agreed timeframe.

Applicants who have not yet achieved the above required qualification, if successful, will be considered in a Trainee Keeper capacity until the relevant qualification is achieved within a pre-agreed timeframe.
