We have a vacancy for a full time Exotic Paddock Keeper.

You will be required to work with a variety of stock including Reindeer, Tapir, Ostrich, Porcupine and Flamingo and Emu.
You will work a 6days on 2days off rota and an average of 48 hours. You will be required to work all bank holidays. Applicants should have the Advanced Certificate in Management of Zoo Animals or an equivalent.

We are looking for someone reliable, hardworking and a good time keeper to join our hard working zoo team.

ANIMAL CURATOR - Cotswold Wildlife Park and Gardens

ANIMAL CURATOR

Applications are invited from capable and motivated individuals for the position of Animal Curator at the Cotswold Wildlife Park and Gardens.

The Park is a progressive general zoological collection set in the grounds of a 200 year old Manor House in 150 acres of beautiful Cotswold countryside.

The incumbent is responsible for management of all Zoology, Veterinary, Conservation and Education matters as well as areas of Public Relations, Advertising, Park Security, Waste Management and General Health & Safety. This department has 25 staff caring for around 2000 individuals of 270 species.

Duties include:
i) Ensuring the smooth and efficient running of the Animal departments, providing direction on animal related matters, including husbandry, nutrition, animal health and education of school groups and members of the public.

ii) Providing direction and setting operating objectives for veterinary care, conservation and research projects participation.

iii) Continuously introducing improvements to husbandry, enclosures and in the design of new enclosures, and working closely with the Veterinary Practice and Maintenance and Horticulture Departments for the overall improvements of animal health and exhibit presentation.

iv) Encouraging efforts by the department in making significant contributions to wildlife research and conservation of endangered species.

v) Development and production of animal signs and interpretation.

vi) Assisting PR and Marketing with animal related activities.

vii) Responsibility for all Animal Husbandry Staff, Records keeper/Registrar, Education Coordinator and P.R Officer.

viii) Firearms.

Requirements:

i) At least 10 years working on the animal department of a Wildlife Park/Zoo with significant experience at management level.

ii) Good level of computer literacy and knowledge of animal record keeping systems.iii) Must be conversant with the EC Zoos Directive and SSSMZP.

iv) Good interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively, both verbal and written, across a broad age range with the ability to work effectively and motivate people.

General information:

Responsible to the Board of Directors.

Reporting to the Managing Director.

Salary paid position.

The successful applicant will be required to work most weekends and Bank Holidays.

A standard 5 day working week of 40 hours from 8am – 5pm or as necessary to ensure adequate Park cover for fulfilment of your duties.

A vacancy has arisen for an Interpretation Officer working within the Animal, Education, and Conservation team. This key role is to assist in the development and implementation of the interpretation strategy for the Society and requires an innovative, creative person who can draw on their experience of a variety of interpretation techniques.The successful candidate will need to work in close collaboration with others and take responsibility for delivery of high quality interpretation within budget and timescale. The post may require some flexible working, and is a full time position, 37.5 hours per week.The successful candidate will preferably have a degree or equivalent in interpretation planning, or graphic design/arts or other relevant qualification and at least 1 year's practical experience working in interpretation in a relevant environment. Since the 1970's Durrell has been working with the St Lucia Ministry ofAgriculture's Forestry Department (SLFD) - the government agency chargedwith conserving St Lucia's terrestrial biodiversity - on theconservation of the island's biodiversity. Durrell's conservationapproach is primarily species led and we focus on the monitoring, protectionand management of rare, endemic and highly threatened species.
To achieve our conservation goals, we rely on the support that volunteerscan provide to these long term projects. We need volunteers to start inJuly/August 2008 and who can commit to a minimum of 3 months, but a definitepreference is given to those who can commit to 6 months in St. Lucia.
Some of the projects that volunteers will help us with in the second half of2008 include:* Assessing the population status of the white breasted thrasher* Conservation management of the St. Lucia whiptail lizard* Estimating the population size of the St. Lucia amazon parrot* Monitoring the status of the St. Lucia iguana and Maria Island snake* Mapping dry forest biodiversity
Volunteers should have a background in biological sciences (preferably atgraduate level) and experience of working in tropical conditions. There is abroad range of tasks including field work (primarily species surveys), dataentry, communication and education. Volunteers will work alongside SLFDstaff and local communities around our field sites.
You need to be reasonably physically fit; able to stay focused on work thatmay become repetitive; willing to devote care to the accurate recording andfiling of data; and ready to adapt to unforeseen circumstances withinitiative and due care. Some of the work will involve camping under prettybasic conditions. Much of the work will involve driving, often on poor roads.
We need you to cover your flight and insurance, vaccinations, personalequipment and ฃ200 per month towards the project costs and your upkeepwhilst in St Lucia. Personal equipment needs are basic (work clothes, goodboots, reliable watch, etc) but we do ask you to bring your own tent andsleeping mat.

Chester Zoo is one of the leading zoological collections in Europe with an international reputation for achieving its mission in conservation breeding programmes, research and education.
We are looking for a keeper to join our Rhino Team. This is a diverse section including Black Rhino, Przewalski’s horse, Zebra, Capybara, Tapir, Blackbuck, Gemsbock, Sitatunga, Meerkat, Brow-antlered deer and Scimitar-horned Oryx.

Voluntary Co-ordinator Required for: Cape Parrot Working Group
*Brief History*
The South African Cape Parrot and its habitat are endangered in the wild. The Cape Parrot Working Group (CPWG) has been co-ordinating the interests of stakeholders concerned with the conservation of this species since 2001.
Stakeholders include:
· University Researchers
· Cape Parrot Captive breeding programme & studbook
· Cape Parrot Aviculturalists
· Members of the provincial and national nature conservation authorities of South Africa
· Local birding groups, farmers and interested individuals
· Eco-tourism projects
· Local communities
· NGO's (other species, conservation, education)
· Forest managers (DWAF & Private Forestry Companies)
With the overall stated aims of the CPWG being to:
· Promote the conservation of the Cape Parrot
· Ensure the conservation of the habitat of the Cape Parrot//
· Promote and encourage an effective law enforcement system for protecting the Cape Parrot//
· Promote local community, national, and international awareness of the Cape Parrot’s plight//
· Encourage a captive breeding programme of the Cape Parrot.//
Due to the diverse range of interests, wide dispersal and voluntary nature of all the stakeholders' communication and maintaining contact between all involved is difficult. The role of the co-ordinator is essential in the successful co-ordination of stakeholders.
The CPWG has historically relied upon a full time co-ordinator and facilitator to ensure the relevant parties are aware of important issues and events, to encourage and assist members implement the aims of the CPWG. The CPWG co-ordinator also plays an important position in providing public awareness and education to local communities and the public in protecting the Cape Parrot. The Cape Parrot is well recognised in South Africa and can also provide a flagship species to assist the wider ecological communities in the afromontane forests.
*Position Details:*
The CPWG is currently without a co-ordinator and is urgently seeking a dynamic self-motivated volunteer who can take this position on and move it forwards. Ideally we are looking for someone with some experience in this type of role who is able to offer a commitment of at least 6 month preferably a year.The responsibilities of the CPWG Co-ordinator would include:· Develop and maintain the infrastructure for the CPWG· Liaise, and maintain interactions and the regular dissemination of information, with and between all stakeholders of the CPWG (SA authorities, researchers, breeders, CP studbook, local communities, ornithologists and the public)· Provide information and liaise with the general public about Cape Parrots· Run awareness and education workshops (schools, local communities local industry e.g. forestry), especially in areas where Cape Parrots occur and human activities impact on the CP· Perform administrative tasks such as: report writing, maintaining financial records· To encourage and assist stakeholders where possible to find the means to implement activities within the action plan· Fundraise to maintain the position into the future (incl. salary, travel, administration expenses etc.)· Respond to crises (e.g. illegal trade information), contacting the relevant parties· Collaborate with other Working Groups and attend relevant meetings
The position will be based at the University of KwaZulu-Natal in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa where admin facilities will beavailable. CHIMPANZEE SANCTUARY IN SPAIN SEEKS VOLUNTEERS
RESTRICTIONS AND LIMITATIONS* These animals need stability, so we require volunteersstay a minimum of six months, working 5 days a week. (Experiencedpeople with primates or professional animal keepers could stay for aperiod time of 3 months).* While the applying process, volunteers should ask whichperiods of time for volunteering are available over the year.* Our working day starts at 9h in the morning and finishingtimes vary according to the season because the more daylight thereis the longer the animals can enjoy their outside facilities (it canbe at 8 pm in summer and 6 pm in winter). Every volunteer has twofree days a week which will be arranged at the beginning of yourstay – to fit in with the other volunteers.* A keeper fs basic work involves feeding the animals,cleaning the facilities, devolving ways of keeping their minds andbodies active because chimpanzees in captivity get very bored.THERE IS NO DIRECT CONTACT WITH THE ANIMALS. The work can beboringand monotonous because 90% of the time is spent cleaning cages,maintenance of the Centre and preparing food.* After volunteers confirm the stage at MONA, volunteersshould give us information about your exact arrival (date,flight c).
REQUIREMENTS
* In order to work with the animals volunteers must havetetanus, hepatitis A and B vaccinations and take a tuberculosis testone week before starting (you must supply a photocopy and show theoriginal of these).* There is the possibility of staying in a shared flat inRiudellots (where the Centre is located) at a monthly rate of 130euros. Mona covers all the expenses at the Foundation such aselectric, water, gas etc. We also supply tea and coffee for theworkers. Expenses such as the telephone are not covered. Each personhas to bring their own food. The Centre provides shower, microwaveand internet access.* Every volunteer has insurance for accident, covered byMONA (It is requiring giving us your number of passport once yourstage at MONA is confirmed). Accidents related with animals or anywork with them, but also every foreign volunteer also will need aprivate insurance if any other kind of illness or accident happenswhile your stage (Volunteers should bring a copy of their particularinsurance).

Munda Wanga Environmental Park, Zambia
Munda Wanga Environmental Park comprises a wildlife sanctuary,environmental education centre, botanical gardens and recreationalvillage. It was originally opened to the public in 1956. With nearly50,000 visitors a year, the majority being school-age children, theprimary aim is to educate Zambia's youth about the importance of theenvironment and the issues which threaten Zambia particularly.
Volunteers that come to Munda Wanga stem from a range ofbackgrounds; from those that are qualified or wishing to gainexperience in a relevant field to those that simply want a holidaywith a difference.
