37 hours per week over 7 days on a rota system

If you have a commitment to a high standard of animal husbandry and an recognised animal husbandry qualification (Sparsholt Zoo management course or equivalent) / NVQ Level 3 in Animal husbandry or equivalent or equivalent experience - we may have just the job for you as a head keeper at our popular visitor attraction in based at Lotherton Hall Estate in Leeds, which houses a variety of birds and small mammals.

The visitor attraction, currently called Lotherton Bird Garden is undergoing an exciting redevelopment and will emerge later this year as Lotherton Wildlife World, housing not just our exotic birds, but additonal small mammals with a new visitor centre, enclosures, facilities and structures to enhance the visitor experience.

You will need to work as part of the team on a 7 day rota basis and should have specific knowledge related to the needs of exotic birds and mammals and their specialised requirements.  You will have substantial previous working experience in a zoo environment and have the ability to supervise and develop staff within the post holder’s responsibility.

You will ensure standards are maintained with the feeding and movement of the the birds and animals, and in the cleaning, decorating and maintance of the enclosures and ponds and in the visitor interpretation.  You will also be responsible for ensuring accurate records relating to animal welfare are kept and maintained. Previous experience in delivering verbal presentations to groups and individuals is also essential to the role.
