FULL-TIME KEEPER: Native Fauna (Birds section)

JOIN TEAM WILD

Would you like to play a critical role in saving some of Australia’s most endangered species?

FULL-TIME KEEPER: Native Fauna (Birds section)

Zoos South Australia is in an exciting phase of new organisational restructure and conservation vision. A key driver in this structure has been to highlight the important role that native species play in supporting our vision. These positions are based at Adelaide Zoo, within the newly formed Native Fauna Team, with a dedicated bird section, native mammal section and reptile section. The team supports various conservation programs, in-situ and ex-situ, and all positions have the opportunity to be involved in field work in support of programmes. Some field experience and knowledge of native species biology and an appreciation of the Modern Zoo role in conservation and Education will be advantageous.

The successful applicant will be responsible for the daily operations and husbandry aspects of the native fauna collection, primarily within the bird section, and as such will have proven husbandry experience preferably with avian species within a recognised zoological institution. The applicant must also have the ability to work well in a team, have excellent communication skills and the ability to deliver public presentations. Species management, training and conditioning as well as hand raising experience will also be highly beneficial.
