Bristol
Zoological Society is recruiting for the above position of Qualified Animal
Keeper on the Mammal section at the Bristol Zoo Gardens site in Clifton.
Working hours are based on a fortnightly rota, which will include weekends and
bank holidays. It may also include occasional evening work.
Applicants should
be educated to a minimum of GCSE level, to include English and a biological
science. The successful applicant must also meet our qualified keeper status –
either having successfully gained the DMZAA qualification (or equivalent), or
have a relevant degree alongside two years paid experience in a recognised
zoological collection, having gained relevant knowledge and experience of
working with a wide range of mammal species. Experience of working with great
apes would be advantageous.
We’re looking for individuals with a positive
outlook, the ability to work within a team and to have a good knowledge of the
conservation and educational roles of zoos. We are looking for candidates with
excellent communication skills, written and oral, as well as knowledge of
animal training and enrichment programmes. Within the role, you will be
expected to engage with our visitors and deliver regular talks.
This is a
practical position assisting in all aspects of management and husbandry of the
Zoo’s animal collection. You will need to have a good level of physical
fitness.
