An exciting position has arisen for an Assistant Curator to join the Dublin Zoo team.     This is a key appointment and the successful candidate will have the required experience necessary to help Dublin Zoo maintain and improve its standing in the world zoo community.

 

Reporting to the General Curator of Animal and Plants, the successful candidate will be responsible for assisting the General Curator in the overall day-to-day management of the Animal and Plants Department and supporting and assisting them to ensure international best practice in animal welfare, general compliance with health and safety regulations and consistent performance to overall Zoo management standards whilst also being a hands on member of the team.

 

Administrative duties will include provision of information and updates to the General Curator, HR, payroll and health and safety records as well as Animal Welfare Assessments and Health and Safety Audits.

 

The successful candidate must have at least 7 years’ hands on experience in the care and management of zoo animals in a medium/large sized modern zoological garden/ or wildlife park and at least 5 years’ experience in a supervisory position in an EAZA or BIAZA collection (or equivalent) and have the ability to provide leadership and motivation to a multidisciplinary team and communicate effectively with people at all levels, organisations, the media and the community at large.

 

A tertiary qualification in an appropriate discipline, e.g. Zoology or other wildlife related science, is essential.

 

The ideal candidate will have an understanding and appreciation of Zoo’s ethics, research, education programs and conservation involvement and experience in zoo breeding programmes, structured animal welfare assessments as well as a wide range of husbandry procedures, including capture and restraint and transport methods.
