The Isle of Wight Zoo is the Island’s original and leading zoo specializing in big cats and lemurs. It is located on the popular east coast of the Isle of Wight overlooking a spectacular sandy beach just half an hour’s drive away from the capital town. The zoo is privately operated by a proactive and dedicated team.
A valuable and exciting opportunity has arisen for an Animal Manager to join our organization to manage the day-to-day activities for the Animal Department activities while assisting with future development of the living collection. This role will work in partnership with the Education and Conservation Department to ensure that the collection is utilized to its best potential throughout both informal and formal education programmes and contributes towards the wider conservation of the natural world.
Additional information:
The successful candidate will have a strong motivation towards team work and leadership and be dedicated to achieving the highest standards for the animal care department. A desire to make a personal contribution to an up-and-coming zoo is a key aspect of this post. Relevant people management and animal care experience is essential. This post will be required to provide duty manager support in the absence of key personnel.

Required:
v Ability to lead, manage and train a small team of keepers to ensure the highest standards of animal care and visitor experience are maintained at all times
v Work hands-on with the animal collection
v Knowledgeable and experienced in the welfare management and exhibition of zoo animals
v Excellent organization skills to ensure optimum operational efficiency
v Experience in delivering informal education to the visiting public
v Ability to work with students and volunteers
v Must be prepared to work some weekends and have a flexible attitude towards working hours
v Good health and physical fitness
Advantageous:
v Experience working with large felids, primates, small mammals and reptiles
v Duty Manager experience within a zoo or associated organization
v Technically competent with animal records keeping systems eg ARKS
v Full driving license
v ANC or equivalent Animal Management qualification
v Firearms license and experience
