About the role:
Working in the team who prepare, care for & train our Sealions, Mammals and various Exotic Birds for educational presentations & shows; no 2 days in this role are ever the same!
 
Main areas of responsibility include:
  • Planning, evaluating & executing environmental enrichment for all animals on the section.
  • Delivery of first-class daily animal presentations, shows, commercial activities and memorable experiences to our Adventurers.
  • Continually interacting with guests, answering questions & providing information to enhance their ‘Wild’ experience!
  • Positive reinforcement training of a wide variety of species for husbandry, guest interactions and presentation behaviours.
  • Demonstrating a commercial awareness to seek new initiatives to increase revenue and minimise costs, whilst maintaining standards.
  • Working with the whole attraction team in delivering a family focused environment that both follows the code of safe working practices as well as exceeding customers expectations.
  • Mentoring, coaching and supervising work-experience students and apprentices.
  • Keeping through and up-to-date records.
 
This role is permanent working full time; 5 days out of 7. Shifts include early’s and late’s, weekdays, weekends & bank holidays; flexibility is required to meet the needs of the business.
 
About you:
Our ideal candidate will have extensive work experience of animal training in demonstrating operant and classical conditioning; preferably with marine mammals and/or exotic mammals and birds. Along with a thorough theoretical knowledge of animal learning, a bachelor degree or equivalent would be advantageous. Exceptional presentation skills and showmanship is a must, in addition to the ability & passion to interact with the public. With the enthusiasm to learn & develop in the role, a good level of understanding of natural sciences and knowledge of dietary requirements of animals is required, to build upon. Strong communication & computer skills are required; swimming & diving ability with a SCUBA certification is advantageous.
