Twycross Zoo - East Midland Zoological Society Limited, is a World Primate Centre.  The Zoo has a comprehensive collection of primate species, together with other mammals, birds and reptiles.  With over 850 animals, the Zoo has exciting plans to further its work in the conservation of endangered species and is striving to achieve the best in animal welfare, research, conservation and education.  We have more to do and as the Zoo develops we are looking for dynamic, knowledgeable individuals to help lead the teams forward.

A permanent position has become available for an experienced qualified Veterinary Nurse, to become part of our hard working team.  The candidate must be a team player and dedicated to animal health and welfare. Responsibilities will include preventative medicine, triaging cases, assisting with health checks and emergency procedures, maintaining the veterinary facilities, dispensing medication, record keeping and maintenance of the veterinary research database; involvement in our conservation work may also be part of this role. 

We are a clinical associate of the University of Nottingham School of Veterinary Medicine and Science and as an expanding teaching centre we teach final year veterinary students throughout the year.  Experience in the use of Medarks and ZIMS would be helpful and zoo-based nursing practice, knowledge of anaesthetic darting, along with experience of large animals would be advantageous.

We are seeking a flexible, confident, organised and enthusiastic, high performing individual with an interest in zoo veterinary nursing. You must be committed to continued professional development. 

The role is full time, working 5 days out of 7, including weekend duties as part of a veterinary team rota.  Salary is paid monthly and we provide uniform and 31 days holiday per annum
