HE Lecturer in Zoo and
Wildlife Management
An exciting new degree
programme is being planned to start at Derby College in September 2019 and we
are recruiting for a full time (part time considered) Lecturer in Zoo and
Wildlife Management. You will perform
the role of Teacher in Zoo and Wildlife Management, undertaking preparation,
delivery and marking of our Higher Education learning programme, ensuring
achievement of agreed performance and quality targets. You will help with the planning of the degree
programme and a range of modules at level 4, 5 and 6. You will be expected to
strive to maintain above average success rates in all areas, using innovation
within your teaching and assessing and utilising e-learning opportunities where
appropriate.
As part of the teacher role
you will deliver the practical and theory aspects of the Animal and Zoo
curriculum across levels 4, 5 and 6. You
will be required to deliver high quality, inspirational teaching which encourages
learners to reach their full potential, promoting progression on to higher
level courses or preparing them for careers working within the animal/zoo
industry. As part of the Animal and Zoo
team you will be required to participate in the resourcing and preparation of
the course delivery and assessment, undertake course administration including
setting and reviewing academic targets with learners.
You will take an active part
in course related trips and visits, recruitment of learners and supporting the
work experience that learners undertake as part of their course, as well as
ensuring that all college and University awarding body standards are met.
The successful candidate will
have proven experience of providing outstanding support for learners and will
be flexible, self-motivated and dedicated to student achievement and
quality. Up to date knowledge and
experience of zoo animal husbandry is essential, with knowledge and experience
in a broad range of industry settings advantageous.
Module planning and delivery
may vary, however, experience in Anthrozoology, Zoo Science and Taxonomy,
Biodiversity and Ecology, Managing Volunteers and Research Skills would be
advantageous. Prior teaching and
assessing experience in a HE Animal/Zoo curriculum is essential, alongside a
Masters in a relevant specialism, or willingness to work towards. It is advantageous to have a teaching
qualification.
