The Secret Owl Garden is Wales’ largest dedicated owl centre based Pembrokeshire. The centre is dedicated to the conservation of owls and visitor education. The ethos of the centre was built around the famous David Attenborough quote “No one will protect what they don't care about; and no one will care about what they have never experienced".

We are a high-quality tourist attraction, offering visitors the chance to experience owls free flying throughout the day. The centre is also well known for providing private and group flying experiences.

Requirements:

We are looking for a candidate with a passion for animal welfare and a team focused attitude who is ready to join our team and work hard to ensure the centre continues to develop and maintain high standards. The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills, self-motivation, a keen eye for detail and drive to develop new and existing skills.

Our work is based primarily outdoors and can be both mentally and physically demanding. A certain level of physical capability and fitness will be advantageous to the candidate for their own overall well-being and enjoyment in the position.

The role encompasses all aspects of caring for owls and maintaining the centre. This will include cleaning, preparing food, independent weight management, maintenance jobs, flying, training and imprinting owls. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate experience in weight control, flying, training and imprinting owls in their CV and covering letter. Alongside this the role is also heavily focused on customer experience including delivering flying experiences, free flying public displays, conservation talks, educational visits and manning retail spaces. You must always be articulate and presentable.

Ideally you will already be comfortable on a microphone, happy to present and entertain groups of all sizes and varying ages.

The role is worked over 5 days a week (Monday-Sunday), 8:30am – 5pm (4pm in the winter). There is an expectation to participate in staff training and training/manning/imprinting birds outside of these hours, where necessary. This includes working weekends and Bank Holidays. Do not apply if you are a clock watcher, there are occasions that require longer hours at short notice.

A full clean driving licence is required.
