Seeking an experienced Zoo executive from an AZA or EAZA institution, Iconic Attractions Group is seeking candidates for a Director of Animal Collections and Husbandry Science position. This person will be on a multi-manager team and reports to the Director of a major zoo. The Director of Animal Collections and Husbandry Science is responsible for directing operation and planning of animal programs, including animal care and husbandry, veterinary care, nutrition, and behavioral management. This position manages the animal collection and also coordinates animal research and conservation efforts. This position also contributes to positive guest experiences and performs other duties as required.

Essential Functions:
  • Lead team members to deliver uncompromising excellence in animal care and welfare.
  • Directly supervises Head of Zoology, Curators, Registrar, Enrichment Training Coordinator, Collection Managers, Show Manager, Head Keepers, Deputy Head Keepers, Keepers and Veterinary Staff In all aspects of their work.
  • Directs the Safari Parks programs for animal acquisition and disposition, husbandry, exhibition, record keeping, enrichment, behavioral management, veterinary care, research and conservation.
  • Partners in the development of animal husbandry policies and programs for all Safari animals and ensures proper daily care and welfare.
  • Promotes and enforces safety protocols, company guidelines, policies and standards.
  • Acts as primary contact for Veterinary, Horticulture, Operations, education and Maintenance issues.
  • Assists in the preparation of the annual budget for animal areas, makes purchases, monitors budget and manages expenses throughout the year.
  • Manage the delivery of inspiring guest experiences.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of the Institutional Collection Plan of Collections Species.
  • Selects, train, evaluate and develop all Zoology Teams Staff.
  • Leads Dubai Safari Park in animal welfare monitoring.
  • Participates in scientific meetings, conferences and workshops when appropriate.
  • Authors papers and present lectures on husbandry and conservation issues.
  • Partners with other departments to meet the Dubai Safari Park animal care, guest experience, operational, media and revenue goals.
  • Assumes leadership role during emergency situations.
  • Interacts with other Zoological Facilities on issues regarding animal care, animal welfare, husbandry, and research.
  • Participates in local, national and international conservation efforts.
  • Institutes and participates in planning and design of new exhibits and renovation of existing exhibits to ensure that animals are presented in a manner reflecting modern zoological practices in exhibit design and that animals’ welfare requirements are balanced with aesthetic and educational considerations.
  • Recommends current needs and future plans for maintenance based on inspection of grounds and exhibits.
  • Ensures that animal areas are in compliance with all UAE.  and local regulatory agencies and with relevant Zoo accrediting organizations.
  • Works with department managers to maintain supplies, equipment and facilities necessary to perform work in an effective and safe condition.
  • Establishes and maintains excellent and consistent intra and inter division communications.
  • Coordinates with Veterinary Staff to ensure the health and welfare of all Dubai Safari Park animals.
