Full time Bird Keeper (maternity cover)

This post is temporary to cover maternity leave. (approx.10 months)

We are recruiting a full-time zoo keeper to work approximately 5 days/42 hours a week.

Qualifications and experience

At least a Diploma in animal studies and one year experience with animals. Two years is desirable.

Skills

· Must be able to work within a team and by yourself.

· Great initiative to be able to work efficiently under pressure.

· Physically fit to meet the demands of the job.

· Confident public speaker.

Salary

Wages meet minimum wage standards.

Responsibilities

· Keep animal enclosures clean and safely secured.

· Maintaining the grounds by sweeping paths, washing windows and gardening.

· Prepare food whilst adhering to our diet sheets and provide the correct supplements.

· Observe animals and check for any signs of distress or ill health.

· Design environments which are as close to natural habitats as possible.

· Provide enrichment to keep the animals active and interested in their environments.

· Educate visitors by sharing your animal knowledge through talks and keeper experiences.

· Assist with vet visits and wildlife call outs.
