Ponderosa Zoo is looking for a new animal keeper to join the team here in Heckmondwike, West Yorkshire. We keep over 140 animals ranging from Scottish wildcats to reindeer. We are continually evolving, and this is an exciting opportunity to join the team of an expanding zoo.

 

The successful candidate will be responsible for the daily husbandry of a variety of our mammal, bird, and reptile species. Experience is desirable with all the above however full training will be given. You should also be confident when interacting with customers as this role involves delivering animal talks and running animal experience sessions. As we are a small team, you should expect to also assist in a range of other tasks such as litter picking and grounds maintenance when necessary.

 

We are asking for at least 1 years’ experience working in a zoo environment as well as an animal related qualification. Good time keeping, positive attitude and being a team player are essential to this role. This role is physical demanding so you must be physically fit to effectively carry out the zoo keeping tasks. A full UK’s driver’s license is desirable.

 

You will work 5 days per week. The hours vary depending on the seasons. During our winter period you will work 32.5 hours per week and during our summer period you will work 37.5 hours per week.
