– Large Mammals

Permanent – Full time – 40 hours per week
(annualised).
A
unique opportunity has arisen for an experienced ‘Large Mammals’ Section Head
to join our zoo and offers scope and potential to lead the Large Mammals team
into the next phase in Blackpool Zoos future.
The
role dictates that a ‘hands on’ approach will be required and a strong emphasis
on the coaching of individuals and team building are essential. You
will need to be able to manage and priorities a diverse workload and have good
problem-solving skills and a strong understanding of the relevant animal
husbandry required for the species kept within your section.
As well as being responsible for your section, you will also be part of the
Senior
Animal Management team within the zoo. In this role, you will help to develop
and
move forward the animal department in a new and exciting time within Blackpool
Zoo’s history.
As well as
being flexible in your approach to managing your sections workloads and
requirements you will need to be hard working, physically fit, enthusiastic,
and reliable.
A
minimum of 5 years zoo keeping experience with at least 3 years with large
mammals, plus proven people management skills and the DMZAA course, or
equivalent, are essential.
The
section currently maintains a diverse range of animal species including
Giraffe, Macropod Spp, Bongo, Sitatunga, Hartmann’s Mountain Zebra, Vicuna,
Tapir, Reindeer, Anteater, Aardvark, Red River Hog, and also various Ratite spp.
A
full driving license is essential.
