Keeper: Hooves and Carnivores Section - Twycross Zoo

Keeper: Hooves and Carnivores Section

Twycross Zoo, based in Leicestershire, is a registered charity and is home to over 1000 animals from more than 200 different species. We are proud of the work we do in conservation and education and take part in many captive breeding programmes for endangered animals. About three quarters of the animals housed at Twycross are classed as endangered species.

We need a keeper to work with hoofstock and carnivores. You will be caring for a variety of species including Snow Leopard, Amur Leopard, Meerkat, Oriental Small-Clawed Otter, Aardwolf, Capybara, Mara, Alpaca, Camel, Giraffe and others. It is ideal if you have already achieved an animal-related qualification, but it is more important to have “hands on” experience of caring for carnivores and hoofstock. We are not looking for a trainee keeper at this point.

It is essential that the job holder possesses a full driving licence and the ability to drive a tractor and trailer. For insurance purposes the minimum age is 21.

Pay is dependent on grade and this is determined by the job holder’s level of competence, expertise and knowledge, not length of service. The shift pattern is 6 days on and 2 off and we offer 31 days holiday, uniform, 5% pension contribution and the possibility of on-site accommodation.

If you are interested, please send your CV with a covering letter to

Closing date: as soon as we can appoint the right person.
