Veterinary Nurse – Fixed Term

Veterinary Nurse – Fixed Term

We have an exciting short term opportunity for a Veterinary nurse who would like a taste of what it is like to work in The Nest at Wellington Zoo. Opened in December 2009, The Nest is an unparalleled facility in New Zealand for providing care to Zoo animals, rehabilitation of native species including marine mammals and birds, and research facility.

We are looking for a passionate and experienced Veterinary Nurse to cover a permanent employee who is taking 6 months parental leave from the 18th October 2010. You will need to be a skilled Veterinary Nurse who can work 40 hours per week and you will need to be happy to work rostered hours including weekends.

In the role of Veterinary Nurse you will be responsible for providing veterinary nursing and husbandry care to our collection animals, as well as to injured and sick animals from outside the Zoo. Working in The Nest, you will be involved in visitor experience with daily procedures on display for our visitors. You will be jointly responsible for the maintenance of animal health, quarantine procedures and maintenance of medical records as well as correct storage of pharmaceuticals. An interest or previous experience with exotic and avian patients would be advantageous.

So if you are:

  • a team player who has sound experience in Veterinary Nursing and a professional approach to the care of animals?
  • a great communicator with good people skills which will enable you to support the Zoo in its delivery of high quality animal husbandry?
  • happy to work on a roster which may include weekends and public holidays?

If so then this may be the opportunity you have been waiting for!
