LIBRARIAN/ ARCHIVIST - Chester Zoo


Chester Zoo, one of Europe’s leading Zoological collections, has an active and award winning Education Division, is recruiting for a Librarian/Archivist. Work includes managing and developing the Zoo’s specialist reference and lending library and cataloguing, preserving and making accessible the Zoo’s archive collections.

The successful applicant will manage the zoo library as a lending and reference facility for staff and visitors. They will manage the zoo’s archive materials and art holding register, where appropriate, to facilitate access to archive material by staff, visitors and researchers. They will manage with inputs from IT, the Zoo’s electronic document management system.

The successful applicant will have proven experience of working in a Library/ Archiving environment. They will have good customer service and interpersonal skills, organisational skills and verbal and written communication skills. They will be computer literate and conversant in Microsoft Office Packages. The successful applicant will have the ability to supervise others e.g. volunteers. They will have good research skills.

The successful applicant will ideally have a Chartered Institute of Librarian and Information Professionals approved qualification. They will desirably have a good understanding of conservation and the role of Zoo’s. They will desirably have experience of working with Heritage library Management software.

This post is full-time, Monday to Friday 0900-1700 hours, 35 hours per week. Salary is £11,750 increasing to £12,425 after satisfactory completion of the probationary period. Subject to Job Evaluation.
