Job Description
Bear Keeper /Manager
Fortress Of The Bear located in Southeast Alaska is a fast growing bear rescue facility. We take injured or orphaned cubs where they are trained and brought to optimum health. Following our care, they placed them in zoos or sanctuaries nationally and internationally.
We are seeking an experienced, enthusiastic individual lead our team in current bear care techniques.
The Bear Manager/Keeper is responsible for the management of the bear collection, animal care staff, animal husbandry, exhibits, and holding areas.
Duties to be performed:
1. Manage all aspects of bear collection, animal care staff, and exhibitry.
2. Provide quality guest service to both internal and external guests.
3. Responsible for acquisition and disposition of animals.
4. Provide the best guest experience possible through guided tours, signage, exhibitry, and animal presentations.
5. Oversee and do collection records including daily animal behavior, nutrition, health, enrichment, and training records.
6. Oversee and implement daily animal enrichment and training programs.
7. Collaborate with veterinarian to ensure the highest level of care for the animals.
8. Provide overall management direction for employee training and professional development.
9. Collaborate with community members and schools to provide outreach and on site educational programs.
