Animal Keeper: Great Apes

Animal Keeper: Great Apes

Twycross Zoo – East Midland Zoological Society (TZEMS), the World Primate Centre, holds a large variety of primates – every type of great ape (gorilla, chimpanzee, bonobo, orang-utan) plus a range of other primates including gibbons, lemurs, callitrichids, cebids and guenons to name a few!  We have impressive breeding records for many of these species and recent changes to husbandry practices has enabled more natural groupings and enclosure modifications. We have more to do!

We are going through an exciting period of change as this zoo develops and so are looking for dynamic, knowledgeable individuals to help lead the teams forward.

Following a recent internal promotion, we have a vacancy for a keeper on the Great Apes section. The section manages all great ape taxa including chimpanzees, bonobos, orang utans and gorillas.  This is a key role which will involve working on the section, covering all areas of animal husbandry including feeding, cleaning, training and record keeping; as well as interacting with the zoo visitors.

We are seeking an enthusiastic, high performing individual with an interest in zoo animal management. You must be a good team worker with a positive outlook and have excellent communication skills.  A minimum of 2 years zoo keeping experience with great apes, and an animal-related qualification, such as the BIAZA approved ANCMZA or DZMAA, would be advantageous.

The role is full time, including weekend duties on a rota system. Salary is paid monthly.  We provide uniform and 31 days holiday per annum.

If you are interested, please send your CV with a covering letter to recruitment@twycrosszoo.org.

Closing date: This vacancy will close as soon as sufficient applications have been received, therefore you should submit your application as soon as possible.
