EXPERIENCED ELEPHANT KEEPER

EXPERIENCED ELEPHANT KEEPER

Kent based Howletts and Port Lympne Wild Animal Parks are part of The Aspinall Foundation, a registered charity that is actively involved with several projects incorporating a diverse range of conservation activities and overseas projects in Central Africa, Indonesia and Madagascar. Our main spheres of conservation-based activity include captive breeding, education, ecosystem management, local community education projects, capacity building, habitat surveys and the rehabilitation of confiscated wild animals.

Howletts Wild Animal Park, situated near Canterbury in Kent, is home to the largest breeding herd of African Elephants in the UK with 21 births since 1982. We are currently recruiting for the full time role of Elephant Keeper to join our existing team of 5 staff.  The ideal candidate will have experience gained in a mainstream zoological collection, an awareness of current conservation issues and a passion for animal welfare with an open minded approach to elephant management.

This is a physically demanding position so candidates must be physically fit. A full valid driving licence is essential to the role. Ideally you will posses experience of driving farm machinery and basic maintenance skills. Holding a recognised Zoo Animal Management qualification, being comfortable giving talks to the public and having the confidence to represent the company in the media would be an advantage.

Working 5 days a week, including weekends and bank holidays, the successful candidate will have a genuinely flexible approach to working hours. Additional employee benefits include either the provision of single accommodation or of a living out allowance and length of service rewards including membership of the company health plan and additional holiday entitlements.

Closing date: Friday 20th December 2013, 12 noon.
