Education Officer

Education Officer

Job Description : It’s official – we’re the UK’s No 1 zoo!  We have over 12,000 animals, 400 species, 1.43 million visitors a year and an international reputation for achieving our mission in conservation breeding programmes, research and education.

Our award winning Discovery and Learning Team is central to our visitors’ experience and their engagement with animals and conservation issues and we deliver this through diverse, fun and exciting means.  We also reach 25,000 students each year in our taught sessions, ranging through all the key stages and above.

We’re currently on the search for an Education Officer to join our team delivering taught sessions.

We’re looking for a creative mind, able to develop and deliver engaging, high quality curriculum-linked workshops and resources for school, college and university groups.  You’ll need a degree in Zoo Biology or a conservation-related field and a teaching qualification or equivalent experience in teaching a wide range of ages and abilities. Experience working with SEND students would be an advantage.

With our immersive 360-degree projection in the Sumba school room, we’re looking for someone conversant in IT packages, interactive whiteboards, tablets, presentation software and audio visuals.  You’ll also need to be able to communicate complex concepts in an innovative and practical way.  And, we’re a busy team so you’ll definitely need good organisational skills - time management, administration, workload planning and meeting deadlines.

A good working knowledge of the National Curriculum and good understanding of child protection legislation and policies are important, and a full UK driving license would be an advantage. And, of course, you’ll need great knowledge of zoos and their role in conservation.

This position is subject to an enhanced DBS check.

It’s a full-time, permanent position, working 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday, normally from 09:00 to 17:00 and may include occasional evening, weekend or Bank Holidays.  As a charitable trust, our salary scale is not based on LEA scales and we’re offering a salary of £19,133 per annum.

To apply for this position, please provide your current CV and covering letter stating why you believe you should be considered for our Education Officer role.
