Zoo Educator Primary

Zoo Educator Primary

Auckland Zoo

He angitūtanga: The opportunity

They say never work with children or animals. Well, here you can do both!

Auckland Zoo is recognised as one of the most progressive zoos in the world. A winner of national and international environmental-related awards, it is home to 126 different species and over 1,000 animals.  Auckland Zoo's New Zealand precinct - Te Wao Nui is a journey through six geographic zones and the flora and fauna of each.  The focus on native species provided by Te Wao Nui catalyses many opportunities for the zoo to contribute to the conservation of New Zealand wildlife, both directly and indirectly.

The Schools Programme team is the learning hub for the Zoo, providing a range of leading programmes to schools and community visiting groups.

You'll design, plan and deliver learning programmes to predominantly primary aged children visiting Auckland Zoo.  Using your knowledge of the New Zealand primary school curriculum, you'll be responsible for everything from programme planning and development to delivery.

As a member of a dynamic team, you will also contribute to our growing range of zoo wide learning programmes, and your teaching skills, creative flair, and passion for wildlife conservation will be essential. You will be working in tandem with one of our permanent Zoo Educators and also providing cover and support for the wider team as required.

He kōrero mōu: About you

You will bring with you a minimum of 3 years' current/recent New Zealand teaching experience, with experience in science, biology, environmental or conservation education being preferable, as would holding a NZ teacher's registration.

Your knowledge of the NZ primary school curriculum, along with your excellent communication skills, will see you excel in this role.

Any experience or knowledge of Te Reo and tikanga Māori would be highly advantageous.

Ngā āhuatanga kei a mātou: What we offer

You will join a highly successful team and be able to combine your experience and skills in teaching, with your passion for conservation and wildlife.

As part of the Regional Facilities Auckland whānau, your work will help to enrich the lives of Aucklanders and will directly impact residents and visitors to our city. You will also have access to a large number of partnership benefits and discounts including food, retail, and health services.

This position is full-time, working 40 hours across Monday to Friday.

Applications close Sunday 27th of October 2019
