Cover Keeper

 

Salary National Minimum Wage to £19,000 per annum DOE

plus a living out allowance of £2,600 p.a. if on-site accommodation is not required or available.

 

Howletts Wild Animal Park near Canterbury, Kent is recruiting for a cover keeper to help all animal sections in the park. The successful applicant will work with a range of animals as staffing levels dictate including carnivores, elephants, gorillas, primates and hoofstock.

 

This is a physically demanding position so candidates must have a good level of physical fitness, prepared to work in all weathers and have a genuine interest in conservation and wildlife. Duties will include heavy lifting and strenuous cleaning, as well as enclosure maintenance, browse cutting, grass strimming and butchery. It will include the operation of vehicles such as tractors and dumper trucks (training will be given).  

 

The position requires an enthusiastic person with experience of working with large mammals. Tractor experience and an animal related qualification would be advantageous. A full manual driving licence is essential.

 

This is a full-time permanent contract working 40 hours per week, generally 8am to 5pm, including weekends and bank holidays. Applicants must have a genuinely flexible approach to their work rota. All applicants must have right to work in the UK.
