Exmoor Zoo is looking to take on an experienced bird Keeper. The individual will need to be reliable, enthusiastic, self-motivated, and physically fit. Considerable experience working as an aviculturist is essential as well as a driving licence due to the remoteness of the zoo.

The duties will be to work in the bird management team and help in the running of their department to ensure high standards of welfare and husbandry for the birds. You will need to be a good team worker, be able to motivate colleagues, show initiative, have a positive outlook, and take responsibility for all the welfare of the birds under your care. You will also play an integral role in training and enrichment of the birds, as well as maintenance of their enclosures.

Requirements of the position;

Ideally, you would require a minimum of eighteen months full time employment in a recognised Zoo environment as an aviculturist or the equivalent from the private sector. It will also be expected that you have some experience with avian hand rearing and the species kept with our collection (parrots, softbills, ibis, etc.)..

·      You should be prepared to gain or ideally have passed the DMZAA or equivalent.

·      Hold a full U.K. driving licence, and have your own vehicle due to location.

·      You will be required to work Bank Holidays and weekends.

·      You will have two fixed days off per week.

Wages will be c £19,000 - £21,000 P/A depending on suitability and experience.
