BIRD PARK MANAGER 

An exciting opportunity has arisen in a state-of-the-art Bird Park located in Harare, Zimbabwe for the position of Bird Park Manager. The position exists to add value to the company by ensuring that the Bird Park is well maintained in a manner that fosters conservation and research while always educating visitors about animals and their habitats. The position entails planning, organizing, leading, and controlling all Bird Park operations and assist the Chief Executive Officer in decision making in and creating wealth for the shareholders by ensuring that customers’ needs are satisfied by efficient Bird Park processes through motivated and highly engaged workforce. The position reports to the Chief Executive Officer.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Ø  Ensure the provision of best standards of animal and bird care while safeguarding their genetic health.

Ø  Design appropriate meal plan for different species of animals and birds and ensure adherence by Bird Park staff.

Ø  Coordinate the incubation process and ensure functionality, service, and repair of all Bird Park equipment. Maintain and consistently update a proper asset register for Bird Park.

Ø  Coordinate the acquisition of licenses and permits for Bird Park operations

Ø  Address all customer complaints that relate to the bird park and ensure that appropriate strategies are in place to exceed customer expectations.

Ø  Create a good working relationship with all Bird Park stakeholders.

Ø  Initiate and drive implementation of strategies and tactics to help maximize revenue generation in line with set targets.

Ø  Oversee all health and hygiene standards of the park, conducting regular health and health checks and ensuring that expected standards are always met.

Ø  Monitor the effective implementation of SOPs to avoid workplace hazards and where required, submit appropriate recommendations to the Chief Executive on interventions to minimize and or eliminate identified or potential hazards.


PERSON SPECIFICATION

 

The ideal person must possess the following:

 

Ø  A Diploma/Degree in Bird Husbandry, Wildlife Management, Animal Science from a reputable learning   institution.


Ø  At least three years’ working experience with birds.

Ø  Extensive knowledge of bird husbandry, people management and stock control are prerequisites.

Ø  Must be passionate about birds and wildlife.

Ø  Must understand various statutes governing Bird Park operations and wildlife management.

Ø  Strong communication skills and ability to work independently with a high concern for order and quality.
